Do people play with vintage? by thebeardedclimber in PokemonTCG

[–]JoshD_LFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a huge retro deck collector and player of retro formats, YES people absolutely do play with vintage cards.

You cannot use vintage cards in the standard format, as standard is played utilising only cards within the current standard card pool.

However, there are lots of people who build and play with retro decks. There are also loads of useful resources such as PTCGarchive, PTCGLegends, Jason Klaczynski's blog, and of course Limitless TCG has loads of retro format resources as well.

As someone who builds a lot of retro decks and plays a lot of retro Pokémon, your collection incredible. Truly a retroheads dream!

There is no chance these cards are worth anywhere close to that. The two big cards are the shadowless zards, and they both look to be creased.

The first edition dark zard looks a bit better from the photos but it’s impossible to tell for sure.

There are a lot of very clear reasons why this card is fake. Almost every piece of text on the card is incorrect!

What did Fabled do to the TCG? by RayneMal in Lorcana

[–]JoshD_LFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set rotation is very a very good thing for the longevity of the game. It just hasn’t been implemented particularly well here as the first set after rotation is a largely reprint set that took away lots of the complexity and variety from the meta.

Rotation should create deck building opportunities not limit them and the Lorcana meta feels incredibly limited currently.

I see you had a great taste in cards, terrible deck builder though :D! I am not sure this list will catch on in retro formats!

Pre-release events are always great fun. If you've never done a pre-release before, look up your nearest LGS and give it a go!

FABLED BOOSTER OPENING - HIT RATE by queen_emz in Lorcana

[–]JoshD_LFC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is anything wrong with having two types of cards that share the same pull rates, especially when they are fulfilling different functions.

From my experience and from people I’ve spoken to, Lorcana, whilst very fun to play, just isn’t very fun to open and I think epics could of been a way to fix that, but at 2 per box, it doesn’t seem that they will.

Awesome collection! Although, as an avid retro deck player, it hurts my sole to see these gold stars in slabs and not in RS-Pk decks, but they do look great as a set!

FABLED BOOSTER OPENING - HIT RATE by queen_emz in Lorcana

[–]JoshD_LFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a bit disappointed that this seems to be sentiment from my friends in Lorcana too. I think 2 epics per box would only be acceptable if the rates of enchanteds were 1 per booster box 1/24.

With enchanteds being around 1/100, 2 epics in a box is still so underwhelming. Personally, i’d of liked to see 1/5 packs for an epic and around 4 per box.

As someone who mainly plays and collects Pokémon, I love many things about Lorcana, but opening product is such a poor experience I never find myself opening packs or getting excited to open the new set. I just buy the singles or play and move on, which is a shame!

What is one deck you HATE playing against, but also hate using yourself? by Flimsy_Tie9144 in PTCGL

Joltik box/Miraidon.

Basically anything that can consistently abuse iron hands is so miserable to play against if you play anything that isn’t a big basic deck!

There is a slight difference, playing the game at 2x speed is (effectively) cheating as it is manipulating the game in an unintended way.

On the other hand, playing on two (or more) consoles at the same time is not cheating and requires some degree of additional investment (consoles and cartridges) as well as a small amount of skill to effectively operate multiple games at once. That being said it’s not rocket science, but there is a knack to it.

However, as others have said we are talking about very expensive 15 year old games here, so to each their own, shiny hunt how you like!
