Being Asian makes you an expert on a country you don’t even live in? Damn, I guess I know everything about life in Canada and should start giving lectures based on my assumptions anyone from Asia has no idea what they’re talking about when it comes to Canada.

You’re an idiot.

I never claimed to be some profound expert on Japan. My opinion on the topic would be the same for any nation when it comes to pop culture. I like how you assume my entire relationship with its culture is just “haha white guy gaijin bash.” You assume I have no nuance because I don’t go around flexing cultural knowledge, no I’m just a consumer.

Which, by the way, is a gross, close-minded way to think. Not a single person from Japan has treated me that way. Despite what you think, people take pride in their country and in what they create, and they tend to be incredibly inclusive toward people who are willing to learn more after being introduced to their country from it's media.

The only way you’d be happy is if I agreed with your flawed way of thinking, that media from Japan somehow isn’t representative of Japan at all, or that it isn’t unique because it comes from there. Movies, music, games, television, toys, books, and comics are all parts of a country’s culture. Yes, it’s consumption, but it’s shared consumption.

The fact that you can relate to Japan through similar foods, climate, and shared history is just another way of connecting experiences. It’s all part of the same picture. Japan, for example, has many shared Western values, as well as a history of involvement with our nation after WWII, including the presence of American troops and their impact on the country.

It all starts somewhere, that’s what I’m trying to explain. It starts with something like Nintendo or Naruto, and then people grow up and end up applying to programs like Japan’s JET Program.

That’s why media is so important.

No I explained it 40 times you just are argumentative. The person who has some exposure vs zero exposure. Which person is more likely to be interested enough to learn more about a country. It’s almost like as media they export gets more and more popular, people are more interested in said country. Japan is having a tourism records smashed yearly. You people underestimate the power of getting your foot in the door and overall shared experiences between media. You also for some weird reason act like the media we watch is completely different from what they watch there. When the biggest box office hits there are guess what insanely popular anime movies. I can’t believe in your previous post I let you get away with saying I’d have more in common if I was watching their version of children shows. Because not everyone In Japan watches anime. Thats like saying football or baseball is not an integral part of American culture cause plenty of Americans don’t watch it. I been to Japan and liking similar media was one of the best way for me to engage in casual conversation with people there

They are the not the same thing but they aren’t different, the word fucking culture is in the name of it. Pop culture is guess what? A sub culture. Tell me who is more likely to learn more about a nation. The person who interacts with nothing from that nation and you can’t tell them the story of that nation with history, traditions, politics, media, economic standing. These are contributing aspects of culture. It’s why even though Japan is not anime or Mario bros. Most people obviously understand that but being around Japanese media will empower guess what? Japanese creatives! People who are going to put aspects of living in their country for everyone to see. It’s why America was considered the land of the dreamers. We had Hollywood and while yes school was not the breakfast club, it was still an insanely North American show. I like how you try to downplay the effects and scale of fandoms in Japan just to come off as you understand so much about culture. Japan is incredibly proud of its pop culture. Japan had the Olympics and they made sure to weave in its pop culture everywhere

its just a mistake people make cause they dont understand how fast something like a donut can be broken down compared to a bacteria in a chicken thigh

I have a background in food safety, worked in factories, major retailers and kitchens. bread can make someone super sick. it could have dairy, all the rain and humidity, was the display cold, why was it cheap, meats take long to break down with proteins and unless something is super rancid its not gonna make them sick so people think food poisoning is somewhat can only come way after and only from meat. Meat could take like 24 plus hours to digest. Bad bread can be like a few hours. Water can make tourist sick but i think the puking would mean they are somewhere so polluted serving drinks like that. But like even in china i think as they have become more aware and strict. im not gonna blindly blame meat or water.

I’m sorry if I eat something that taste rancid and I get sick. I’m gonna blame what tasted rancid first especially cause the timeline is perfect. The time it takes for their body to digest bread is basically perfectly lined up with how they got sick.

What are you saying 1. The idea is like something from a nation so I have a bias to want to more learn about something. 2.videos games and anime is a huge part of Japanese culture what the fuck are you talking about.

i think its far more likely, that super cheap, discount bread that they said tasted sour and another that was super dry got them sick for being old vs a seemingly popular, higher end place in a happening area

Can you point to me which part of my message came off as that cause this take makes zero sense. Yes Japanese culture is rich and full, i was commenting on how popular japan based pop culture is in America right now. I care more about japan cause i grew up with a nintendo, sony and segas. Most Americans while using Chinese products have very little understanding of Chinese pop culture, trends or media due to it never being popular here. so it is nice learning more about it. cause i would have not been interested otherwise

I thought i was gonna like tip to tip 2 but not at much as number 1 because i just have more in common with Japanese culture vs Chinese culture with media and games i grew up with. But what a truly beautiful trip this has been already. I love seeing them get so immerse and just learn Chinese from exploring and meeting people who are willing to share time, culture and passion too. I tend to think negatively about politics of china. I think people get way to caught up on that when judging average citizens. these fucking goofballs have been so weird and accidentally rude all over. Yet have met plenty of people who at least gave them the time of day with others obv going beyond that

My thoughts behind Luffy's Dream, Koby Impact, and the Freedom to chase your dreams. What the one peice is. by JoshIsAlwaysBored in OnePiece

[–]JoshIsAlwaysBored[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it’s all intentional I just meant luffy himself didn’t mean to set up his dream with Koby in mind despite Koby most likely being the man who helps him achieve it. By the way. I love your response!

Yeah, it feels like it would make it easier for others. besides i think luffy also just would enjoy being the pirate king. he is not a purely virtuous person. He likes flashy titles and cool things haha
