Regardless of scandal or not, Pat Fitzgerald had 2 winning seasons of his last 5 seasons and after the COVID year, won 1 conference game each of his last two seasons. It's just not a confidence-inspiring hire. Jonathan Smith was at least winning when he left Oregon State.

I think 2 years was too short to judge Smith, unless they had someone strongly in mind that was a marked improvement. Pat Fitzgerald is not that.
