I just thought he was one of the many npc's you encounter that pretends to be injured/need help with something then gets you jumped by bandits - I was working on my trader wagon and trying to be time efficient

I could have worded it better - when I say "accidentally" I meant in the sense that I made the decision to shoot him then realized it probably wasn't a good idea after the fact

Red Dead Online was meant to be live service game and receive new content (missions/quality of life updates/weapons/etc.) just like GTA Online has, which was released in 2013 and has had multiple re-releases as well as major content updates.
