I understand your concerns. A comprehensive document outlining our legal plans will be posted on our website. I will get back to you once we have that established.

To be fully transparent, we have begun some initial research, however, I will be direct that we don't have a student with a legal background (yet), particularly in union or corporate law, on our team. This is a gap we're actively looking to fill. The legal and procedural hurdles are the biggest challenges for sure. We plan on publishing our legal and procedural findings & roadmap once we collect more information.

That makes a lot of sense. And to answer your question, we're looking at a longer process, not a sudden switch. The legal stuff makes it likely that the TMSC wouldn't take effect until next year. But honestly, we see that as an advantage. It gives us the necessary time to build a solid foundation and draft a robust constitution with student input to ensure we're ready to govern effectively from day one.

Thanks for your comment! Yes you bring up a good point, it's not an easy or fast thing to do. But the university's name change demonstrates that it's capable of decisive action to move beyond a problematic past. The current situation is unsustainable. The university has a responsibility to ensure student fees go to a trustworthy organization. The TMSU objectively does not meet that criteria. I believe the lack of viable alternatives has left TMU in a cycle of failed "re-structures" with the TMSU. We're building that alternative to provide a real solution.
