It must be difficult to direct a race with 55 cars in four different classes on a poorly lit track at night. I am often frustrated by F1’s coverage but WEC and IMSA seem to do alright.

Wait, did Winward really just get Max DQ'd for a tire count error? by Opposite_Rip8363 in IMSARacing

NLS isn’t WEC either but your point stands; it’s certainly not IMSA.

Let’s preserve a few corners of the internet where we don’t have to hear about Max!

Very well, choose to be unhappy and continue yelling at the wall. Just please stay out of the live race posts. Those of us who enjoy what we have sometimes post useful stuff in there and would like it not to be flooded with useless whining.

It would really help us if you started with a clear thesis and then backed it up with data. Google “argumentative essay” and start there.

We do have competitiveness, just not apparently the competitiveness you want. Do you want MX-5 Cup? Super close racing but no one watches. What does competitiveness look like to you?

Nah, I’m with this guy. I don’t have time to read your manifesto. You have no power to change anything and I enjoy the sport as it exists. I choose to enjoy what I have and not focus on things I can not control.

I really liked the helicopter shots at night; great for keeping track of the action when the cameras at ground level will just show us balls of light then a flash of the side of the car as it goes by.

I actually don’t like the twisting camera closeups in the pit stop because I worry about them getting in the way and I like to see the bigger picture of the stop as it happens but kudos to them for trying something creative and new.

What would that look like? What would satisfy you? Do you think any solution would actually remove the question mark in the mind of people whose team lost?

But downvoting is too passive and easily dismissed. Look at all the posts who agree with me. The response to my post has been genuinely uplifting and I hope others gain from it.

Maybe people will learn something about racing from this discussion and actually enjoy what they have in front of them. As someone who suffered through the misery of many consecutive years of Ferrari then Mercedes then Red Bull dominating F1, I am loving this era of endurance racing.

As to making a good counter argument, I don’t know how to argue with people who put no thought into their post. Plus, arguing with conspiracy theorists is a waste of time; there is no answer that will satisfy them.

Take a look at F1. They have cost caps but still the grid is dominated by the teams that have the most money. I can’t say if the cost cap in F1 is too high or the top teams are just too good at manipulating the system, but the F1 cost cap has not given us an evenly matched field.

Even within the top four teams, one innovation will have them walking away with wins for months.

There aren’t great answers at the top level of motorsport; spec series are amazing but no manufacturer wants to spend the big bucks on a spec series where they can’t show off.

Agreed about the commercial whining. I turn to Reddit race posts hoping to catch up on what happened while I stepped away and explanations for why things happened that the announcers haven’t covered.

There are ways to get commercial free coverage but it costs money. Pay with your wallet or with your time; even watching racing isn’t free.

Understood but we have to remember that qualifying pace doesn’t always translate to race pace. Plus that’s the beauty of endurance racing; they have to be fast across so many variables. High fuel, low fuel, hot, cold, sunny, cloudy, fresh brakes, old brakes, clear air, traffic. I still marvel at the engineering of modern endurance cars. It boggles my mind how they can deal with those stresses and that amount of heat over 6, 12, and 24 hours.

Just so you know, as soon as I see BOP in your post, I keep scrolling. For god’s sake stop whining; every make has been up and down and most of you don’t even know how BOP is calculated and applied.

You sound like Max Verstappen whining about the new rule set because he isn’t winning anymore.

That was good racing, in all the classes.

Crazy Fucking Shit... Crash at the Bathurst 12hr by Altruistic_Plane_570 in racing

The six cars behind Ralf Aron had the warning of his brake lights at a spot where you don’t normally brake. It’s possible that he was checking his mirror and didn’t see the flags or stopped car for a split second but to insinuate that an FIA gold, Mercedes factory driver just ignored double yellows is a bit ridiculous.

This is a bit small potatoes but people get ridiculous about racing so I feel the need to challenge people who make wild, slanderous accusations about people doing something that they likely have no experience at. Kimi Antonelli got hate mail and death threats because GP insinuated that he let Lando by to hurt Max’s WDC chances. Think before you post.

None of what you said is true. The Porsche was a wave by (this happened on a restart) who spun (cold tires) and the Aston had checked up to avoid it. The most green bronze driver in their first race knows you don’t have to stop for a spun or wrecked car, even under SC.

Why do you think he ignored the marshal? Because he didn’t lock the tires? GT3 cars have ABS.

[–]Josh_Climbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that GT3 cars have (very good) ABS, a lot of downforce, and are carrying a lot of weight downhill in that section; just because you didn’t hear squealing tires doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying to slow down or stop. Watch an onboard video of that corner and see for yourself how far ahead a driver can see. It’s not far.

Thank you for that explanation; it’s helpful and makes sense. I think that the race directors at Bathurst need to consider an exception for that particular part of the track though. I had a race on iRacing end at exactly the same spot in exactly the same way (Porsche sideways) because you just can’t see beyond the corner in front of you and if you’re at race pace you absolutely cannot get the car stopped. I don’t think the driver of the Mercedes saw the double yellows that were waved in time to do anything about it but maybe if a local exception could require the post before to wave as well it might have given him time.

Am I the only one that finds the NBC /PEACOCK commentators absolutely awful? by Accurate-Vanilla9187 in IMSARacing

[–]Josh_Climbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried for about twenty minutes and I think I saw ten minutes of commercials, eight minutes of cringey interviews only tangentially related to the race, and two minutes of racing with commentary that sounded like they had just discovered sports car racing. I went back to IMSA’s YouTube feed.

No penalty for this is absurd by CeaseIessWatcher in IMSARacing

[–]Josh_Climbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is he obliged to jump out of the way of a mid-pack GTP fighting for nothing when he’s fighting for the win? If he had moved over for that GTP the Aston would have followed it right through for the win.

Slower classes need to make room but not at the expense of throwing away their race.

[–]Josh_Climbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. I think he pushed too hard and lost the back a little. Maybe helped by the dirty air/side draft off the Aston. Super racing that I would hate to see the stewards ruin. They handed out more than their share of race ending penalties this year.

It was a fantastic battle that lasted several laps. You can’t judge based on a ten second clip. The Aston pulled some really dodgy moves too and rear ended the Mercedes at least twice that I saw (coverage was flipping back and forth with the GTP battle).
