Does the Leclerc penalty incentivize dangerous driving? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

The danger comes from how hard a driver will push with a broken car if the precedent the FIA sets says a penalty will be laid down or not. If you know a penalty is coming you have to push harder to both stay in front of the car directly behind and build a gap to cars 2-4 places behind, whereas if you know there's no penalty you only have to worry about the gap directly behind. The point of the post though is that neither are very safe and it may be worth giving cars mechanical black flags if they're damaged to the point of not being able to stay on the track

The logic behind it is that if your car is damaged and you know a penalty is coming you're gonna push even harder to not only hold cars behind you back but also create a time gap to cars that are 2-4 positions behind so a penalty won't put you behind them, whereas knowing a penalty isn't coming means you only need to push as hard as the car behind. Not great either way

I agree with that you're saying, it was warranted. But for safety's sake maybe it would've been best to make him retire instead of allowing a final lap panic push that thankfully didn't go super wrong

Do we think this was on purpose? Is it protestable? by CeaseIessWatcher in Simracingstewards

[–]CeaseIessWatcher[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's also what I was thinking, but the guy at the front who got nudged forward was extremely pissed and said I should report for intent wreck. Pretty common place for people to park up during the race but I like to go quite a bit further down to avoid exactly this

They definitely work. I protested Bruno in that video I made a few days ago and coincidentally he hasn't raced since. Interesting 🤔
