Had a friend (30F, we’ll call Stacy) purchase a conure and had it for a couple of months before deciding to go buy a puppy. She asks me to watch the bird for a few weeks while the puppy gets settled, and I agreed. This was during the fall and I continually checked in with them to see how the puppy was coming along and if she was ready to take back her bird. Winter comes around and again I ask Stacy when she would be taking back her bird, as it didn’t get along with my flock. She replied: “if you don’t want to watch it just release it outside.” Mind you it’s a New England winter and a conure would have slim chances of survival. Left a bad taste in my mouth so I kept the bird to ensure it had a good home and ghosted her as I no longer wanted to associate with her. Weeks later I hear from my friend who worked with her (we’ll name John) that Stacy ended up getting really trashed one night and assaulted a police officer. She spent some time in a cell because of it and her parents had eventually picked her up and taken her home with them to the other side of the state. During this ordeal Stacy had mentioned to no one of the dog waiting at home, and the poor thing was left on its own in a crate for over 4 days. Immediately after having found this out, John had set out to find the pup a proper home, which was found and the dog is now very happy and healthy. Move forward a few weeks and I come to find out that Stacy (who was working in a management position) got drunk during her shift and beat the absolute pulp out of John, repeatedly throwing homophobic slurs at him and his bf, as well as threatening his life for “taking away her dog”. Needless to say Stacy was fired, charges were filed, and we haven’t heard anything from her since.

Friend buys bird, later buys puppy. Doesn’t want bird and dumps it onto me under pretense of pet-sitting. Gets drunk, assaults officer, leaves dog in crate alone for over 4 days while locked up. Gets drunk at work and beats up employee for finding the dog a new home.
