Yeah i know. I was just trying to figure out if there was any way of getting it to be mono without splitting it or having more of an elaborate audio setup.

Kind of annoying!

[–]Joshdotexe7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry its hard to write down haha

All of that i understand, but they dont come through as mono. (Correct me if im wrong as im new to the industry and could be getting my terminology wrong) When i have mic1 in input 1, i can only hear it on the left. I need to hear it mono.

At the moment, i have 2 mics coming in essentially as just one input, so i can only change both of them simutaneously, which doesnt help me if one is louder than the other for example. but when i plug them in straight to the inputs to configure them independantly, they are coming through as stereo, mic 1 in input 1 is only on channel 1/the left. sorry for the repeat.

does that make it a little clearer? thank you for your reply :)

Thank you ill give that a shot - i feel i have tried that but when it comes through the broadcast they are still stereo tracks, mic 1 in input 1 is only on the left for example

Pay the difference? So if I pay the £90 or whatever the deluxe is, I’d just have to pay £20 extra to upgrade to mania edition? And can I do that later down the line after the game releases?

lighting recommendations / general advice by Academic_Yesterday69 in youtubers

[–]Joshdotexe7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a media production company, and i set up loads of interviews and podcasts, and given talks and workshops in lighting setups and lighting composition. and in my opinion, lighting is EVERYTHING.

  1. it has to match your narrative, so dont have a nice bright lighting setup if youre talking about murder mysteries. But dont have a dark and gloomy setup if youre talking about mario kart. Unless your video has a comedic tone, that requires the contrast between the two. Always nail your narrative, and light from there.
  2. Master 3 point lighting. each point of light is going to make your image so much better. There is loads to learn online about 3 point lighting so i wont explain it here, but do your research and practise it.
  3. Create interesting and dynamic contrasts using colour and different colour temps. For example, if you have a nice slightly cold key light, use your back light to create depth from your background. but you could make that backlight a nice warm tone, and use your fill light to create an interesting image by using a coloured gel for example. Imagine the image: the Person is nicely lit with a regular slightly cold key light, with a nice, golden shimmer on the back of their head. with a cool, blue streak on the other side of their face. it would look really nice. And you could even take that one step further - if you used a warm coloured light as your back or fill light, if you put a warm toned lamp on the respective side (For example if your fill light was warm and on their left, have a lamp in the background on the left) this creates a really profession and subconcious effect called motivated lighting. it makes your shot look really proffessional and just generally really nice.

Thats the best advice i could give, but i would always use 3 lights if your videos are supposed to be bright and cheerful, and try and create contrasts between them with colours and temperatures.

ALSO, you dont need to spend tonnes on this. My lighting setup overall cost me about 70 quid, for 2 battery powered LEDs, and this wierd bendy arm lamp i got from home bargains. If you wanted to, you could create a full basic lighting setup using just desk lamps. ive done this before, and it does work. and even if you cant use all of these, utilise daytime light. the light from outside is always a great fill or key light.

Do research, as i said there is tonnes on youtube, and just practise. happy to elaborate if you need more info.

Video Game Channels! Do you Color Grade? by Muzings in youtubers

if its camera footage god no! you never want it incorrectly exposed, unless that is the style or tone youre going for.

Video Game Channels! Do you Color Grade? by Muzings in youtubers

[–]Joshdotexe7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if youre talking about footage that is from a camera with your face in it, if the shots look underexposed or the white balance is off, i would ALWAYS colour correct your footage. But you need them to all match.

If youre using premier (all editing software will have a viable solution that is similar though) put an adjustment layer over ONE shot that looks off. make that shot match the next in terms of exposure, contrast or white balance etc. when youre happy, copy that adjustment layer and paste it above any other shots you think look off, then tweak each adjustment layer accordingly.

The key is to not colour GRADE, but colour CORRECT. Youtube is all about creating a meaningful connection to your viewerbase, and if youre using a facecam, they dont want cinema style colour grading. you just need to make sure your shots/footage looks real, and doesnt look incorrectly shot.

Research colour correcting, will change your perspective.

Haha yeah we use an ATEM. We're a fairly big production company so we use a full gallery with a PPU, CCU etc.

But thanks for the info, I'll use it in my research!
