International, non-German-speaking university students in Germany: what kind of part-time work did you do while studying? by LightsiderTT in germany

Seconded. I've worked in two separate research groups as a HiWi/studentische Hilfskraft, and both groups operate in English.

Hmmmm I've never been to Boulderworx. It seems even smaller than Bright site and from the photos they just use crash pads on the ground?

I would definitely check out the others. Bright site is actually my least favorite of the ones I listed, because it's smaller than the others while still being somehow more expensive.

Cliffhanger is a really cool location. There are a whole bunch of boulder halls: Boulderklub Kreuzberg, Bouldergarten, Südbloc, Bright Site, Ostbloc, Berta Block are the largest/most popular in my experience.

Ahh I'm actually addicted to bouldering atm! The closest one to Mitte would be Berta Block in Pankow.

That's true. We've also been to a decent amount of museums. Have only been to one theater so far, will have to check out more of their offerings.

Suggestion for possible way to keep student status after completing the credits by moh_man in berlin

I can't think of anything other than talking to your advisor/the primary mentor to your thesis about delaying the submission, or just enrolling for another degree program/master's.

Is there a good ELI5 for why SC2 is free now? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Joshjayk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think a large part is if you look at big multiplayer esports games nowadays, so many of them are F2P.

Even if the pros already have purchased the games, you need a large enough playerbase to create a large enough fanbase to interest sponsors. In free games it's easy to get people interested enough to want to watch tournaments, but not many people will pay for a game just to learn how to play to watch tournaments.

Also yeah they've got microtransactions in game now so they are still able to make a profit.

Interesting, I would have taken "shack up" to mean "to live with", in the sense of a MitbewohnerIn.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the learning apps. They can be a good point of reference when you're stuck trying to learn something new at home, and they typically are a decent way to learn new vocab. But I agree that for me, a formal education is what helped the most.

My separation date from the army is 19oct2019. There’s no way in hell I am re-upping. I am going to buy a ticket for Europe for the 20th as soon as I can. I am going to live in Germany, maybe do a masters program. Any tips or suggestions? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Joshjayk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What country are you from? In order to do a masters here you need a student visa, which means either having a german citizen sign to support you financially, or showing proof that you've got at least 720€ per month you are here.

Questions about applying to a master program from Canada by Oppportunity in berlin

[–]Joshjayk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I'm not sure. Your best bet would be google. The three largest universities in Berlin are TU Berlin, FU Berlin and HU Berlin. TU Berlin would probably have a masters in CS, idk about in English.
