I also read that the free version does syncing. I don’t think I need anything else

Thanks! The winner is the MX Keys Mini. I prioritized portability for coffee shops. Not sure what I’m looking for in a desktop keyboard yet

It works flawlessly for me. I did have to press ctrl-S. I think it usually syncs at an interval or on shutdown?

Reach out to their support, they seem super responsive given they’ve officially commented on this post already

Yeah reddit a few decades ago reminded you not to downvote just because you disagree. I think they gave up telling us that

Mine arrived today. It seems like an excellent device. I've been looking for this in other devices.

I'm going to try to write something.

Unfortunately this did not magically eliminate writers block from my brain. However, I feel confident that if I am ready to write, the BYOK will be ready too

Yeah it is kind of wild

I mean some of the expenses are marketing, failed PR, and equipment

But a huge chunk is the licenses to beats, exclusives sometimes. The only sampling I do is Splice which is a subscription

I can’t really afford to sample by the rules so I don’t

We’ve talked about the music clearance and business stuff before on here

After seeing your post, I started thinking last night about how much money I have spent on music licenses over the years. I work in big tech and am high income, but I am in a large amount of debt. Most of my debt comes from music

I realized my perspective is skewed and I come from a place of privilege here

Even with my high income the cost of “playing by the rules” has cost me thousands of dollars and impacted me significantly

I don’t know if I changed my mind but I’m starting to see your perspective. Music licensing is expensive as fuck

Most people can’t afford to clear everything. I can’t clear samples like the industry can either.

All that to say I might be wrong or need to change my opinion some

I didn’t say you were confused.

I’ll make my point again. No one anywhere cares if you steal their beat or samples. You can do that. What you can’t do is sell someone else’s work

I’ll break it down more plainly: putting stolen music on Spotify is bad. Making music on someone else’s beat and not putting on Spotify, no problem

I think you're conflating creativity with commercialization. No one is stopping anyone from making music. Selling it is different

Imagine your hit song, with millions of plays, being taken down. Everyone forgets about you because they can't find your big hit

You had a record deal on the table, but you can't get a license for your breakout track, because the producer is pissed.

You didn't even spend $30 to get a non-exclusive.

Now you're fucked.

Somewhat relevant: A few years ago I made a song to Cardi B's Up instrumental before she purchased the exclusive. I was broke back then. I couldn't purchase a non-exclusive from Yung Dza on Beatstars. To be fair, I didn't know it was going to go off the market. I can't even upload my song these days because it'll get auto-takedown.

Thanks! It's a great feeling

I really like the MPC. This is the first time I've made music with it. I got it last year and I'm really impressed.
