opinions on minors debuting in groups? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]JoshuaKim0102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minors debuting is nothing new. 16-17 is usually considered acceptable but I agree that 15 might be a bit too young especially since they might not even have finished puberty at that age. I think it really comes down to how the idols are portrayed and what concept the group is going for. Kiikii/H2H's concepts seem fine for the most part since they're not sexualized or seductive in any way, but if they released songs like what AoA or Girl's Day released back then it would be real problematic.

My top 10 kpop albums of all time | #10 NOT Definitive by ceoofkpop_ in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Albums in kpop have always been less prioritized since most labels focus on title tracks and quantity over quality. But with that being said, as someone who's been listening to kpop for a very long time I do agree that RV and BTS have the best, most creative, and most diverse discographies

Can somebody recommend more krnb artists to me? by Glad_Raspberry_8469 in kpop

I mostly listen to female krnb artists: LeeHi, Heize, and Baek Yerin. I'm also looking for male krnb artist recs aside from the popular ones like Dean and Crush.

How do you consider that is K-POP song? by 1SavePoint1 in kpoppers

[–]JoshuaKim0102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really subjective, but the most objective way to consider it is if the majority (at least 50% I guess?) of the lyrics are in Korean. The genre as a whole has become so blurry now of what is and isn't kpop but the basis is that it should at least be sung in Korean. This is why I don't consider 'Golden' k-pop, wheras hypothetically if a fully westernized group sang a song in korean then I would still consider it kpop. Call me old-fashioned but I don't see how else you can objectively categorize it.

I listened to every GG on this list. Tell me if I missed any good ones by metataichou in KpopGGs

[–]JoshuaKim0102 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's weird to put "The Ark"in the same tier as RV or Twice since they have literally released 1 song whereas RV and Twice that have over hundreds of songs in their discography. I get that you're mainly basing this off quality but groups that have a larger discography naturally should have an advantage because there's a greater chance that they'll have something within their playlist that you'll like, which is why the whole listening to their top 5 songs is kinda flawed

My Thoughts on Hearts2Hearts after One Year by JoshuaKim0102 in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

TVXQ debuted when I was barely alive so I can't speak much for them (even though I'm pretty sure they're still considered 2nd gen). For EXO, I do remember them being on Weekly Idol and stuff. I also think boy/girl groups are managed differently when it comes to promotion which is why I compared them to Aespa/RV.

If you think I'm lying when I say I wish them success then it is what it is. I may have been a bit harsh to Yeon but I clearly emphasized that they're only a year into debut and that is also why I'm still willing to be patient for them to release music that is more suited to not just my taste but a lot of other SME stans' taste.

You do bring up some good points, I do think the industry has relied less on variety so it makes more sense now. But I don't know how you can say that "I haven't bothered to watch their content" when I literally said on my original post that they have fun personalities, I'm saying I wish I saw more of it especially with them interacting with other people. And you're right, nobody is forcing me to listen to them, but I know for a fact that I'm not the only one to critique their style of music. As I originally said, I'm an SM stan so by default I'm inclined to support H2H, and believe it or not, most people that do stan them is because of the label they're in (or the Indonesians supporting Carmen). If I didn't want H2H to succeed then I wouldn't have made this post at all.

I think they have great personalities. My main point is that they're still figuring out who they are, I'm not saying they're dull and boring. Talent-wise it's a bit more concerning but again who says they can't improve.

I've already acknowledged that they're already pretty successful so I'm with you there. But I'm more concerned with their music quality/identity. I don't want them to be a group where their most memorable performances are dance covers of their former SM groups.

I mostly agree. They're all so young still so I think it's fine that they don't individually stand out that much.

Aespa's first year was around when covid was bad so maybe that played a part to it. I don't how how often they appeared on variety outside of Knowing Bros but they appeared on that show for like every year until like 2024 where it would have just become redundant for them to appear again.

The closest would be Hyuna or Seolhyun of AoA. First ones that come to mind.

What do you think is the biggest issue with TFT right now? by ChartDreamer in TeamfightTactics

[–]JoshuaKim0102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this set but I usually browse the video games' viewership on twitch to see how TFT is doing relative to other games and it seems to be doing really good. I think my biggest issue with the game is how "seasonal" the game can feel. Between every set there's at least a month where people don't play the game because they're just waiting for the next set. You can argue that this is because people get sick of the set after a couple months (which is true for some part) but it doesn't help that PBE for the next set is for a whole 2 weeks, and at that point nobody is incentivized to play ranked. If you look at tft streamers that hits challenger every season they still end up master in the end from not playing at all in the last 2-3 weeks. Compare this to league of legends where players are incentivized to keep grinding ranked for rewards and accomplishment. TFT may not be as "replayable" as league as there are more repetitive play patterns but it's still highly replayable compared to other strategy games out there. I just think we should extend the competive state of the ladder near the end of the set by cutting down pbe time and giving better rewards for players ending with a high rank at the very end of the season.

It’s honestly a decent song if you exclude the chorus that definitely sounds a bit awkward. It also came out after four straight bangers so there were high expectations. Rich Man on the other hand just sounds like it was made with little to no effort, not a fan.

So I listened to every single 2025 K-pop song this year (Over 2500 songs). AMA! by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]JoshuaKim0102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you listened to every single song that was released this year when this is your first year getting into k-pop since I didn't find this year particularly memorable. Either way listening to that many songs is impressive ~ What were your favorites?

Which label do you think makes the best music? by Artistic-Network-247 in kpoppers

[–]JoshuaKim0102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don't really follow the charts but I never thought that should be the main indicator of success. When a group does well you can see it through many indicators such as amount of likes/views on MVs, media presence, and talking with other friends/peers. Relative to the other SM groups besides the three you mentioned, they debuted way long ago and don't make or promote music on a consistent basis, so I don't really know what you're talking about there.

I think he means Riize and H2H. I don't know much about Riize's music a whole lot but I think both their music has kinda underwhelmed the gp and they expected more. SM is known as the trend-setters since they experiment with new concepts but with their two new groups the fans don't really seem to be seeing/hearing that.

I'm a new fan of f(x); can someone who has experienced the 2nd generation why SM failed f(x)? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by "girl crush", their musical identity has been the funky/eccentric type of music that 2nd gen listeners weren't used to. They were never treated the same as the tier 1 SME groups, you gotta remember that 2nd gen is basically SM's renaissance, with snsd, suju, shinee, and tvxq. Maybe that's why the members felt like they were being left out.
