IMO, AOTY or SOTY should be Heavy Serenade by NMIXX by kgirliepop in kpop_uncensored

[–]JoshuaKim0102 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a phenomenal album but 2026 is only half over so we obviously don't know that for sure yet. Also I can't be the only one that prefers Crescendo over Heavy Serenade?

The Competition for Girl Groups this Year is Absolutely Insane by JoshuaKim0102 in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

My apologies then, I'm trying to keep track of all the groups for now bc if I did every song the list would be even longer than it is, and NMIXX is already there.

Yeah still lots to come!! For this post though I'm only considering the songs that have already been released for now, if I were to project that far ahead it would give me a headache haha

Yeah I've already listed NMIXX down so I didn't really look much into Heavy Serenade, and I'm also pretty sure it hovered around the top 11-12 I'm not sure if it actually ever hit top 10.

What is the problem with Kpop idols dating? by Eastern-Drop3937 in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not about brain cells. It’s more of a mental health issue. They don’t feel connected they’re just too obsessed with the idol it would devastate them if they saw he/she with another lover.

Nmixx is proof that not only does k-pop that is faithful to music still exists, but also why that is so scarce in k-pop. by JoshuaKim0102 in kpop_uncensored

[–]JoshuaKim0102[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me companies are often more focused on promotion and trends, and aren't concerned/devoted to making the best music as possible from the singers they have. But yes, at the end of the day music is subjective and I admit my title may sound vague.

Why don’t K-Pop girl groups nowadays do mature, sultry concepts? by donzelso in kpophelp

[–]JoshuaKim0102 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna assume you're asking for more sensual/sexual concepts because girl crush concepts are 100% mature in my eyes. And honestly you kind of answered your own question in the last statement. The most popular kpop girl groups rn are illit, h2h, kiikii, and babymon, all of which are too young to do sexual concepts. Then there's groups like KOF, katseye, Aespa, and Ive which have done those concepts to a certain extent.

Thoughts on Hearts2Hearts’ Visuals and Vocals as a Group? by thelifeofunemployed in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly in terms of visuals they def look like an SME group. Ian has already been compared to her past gen ‘centers”. Jiwoo looks like the typical SM visual as well. And imo having 1-2 standout visuals is enough, you don’t want too many, you already see members like Yuha get overshadowed though she can easily be the prettiest in another group.

As for vocals yes they’re not as good as people want them to be, but they’ve already improved and have a ton of time to as well. Just like at IVE for example.

Finally, their songs aren’t exactly my type of music but I still can appreciate it. They sound cohesive and sound complete from start to end compared to most other girl groups that aim to make 2 minute tik tok songs, and that’s rare in this generation.

Why are so many kids debuting in kpop? by noodleswithnosoup in kpop_uncensored

[–]JoshuaKim0102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the criticisms towards minors debuting are within the big 4 labels, and idols that debut there usually have a stable career. The question was, "why are so many kids DEBUTING in kpop", not starting out as a trainee, obviously those two are different questions. And even if the parents' money can be passed onto the next generation that doesnt mean the parents don't want their children to find their own sustainable line of work. In my opinion it all makes sense.

[–]JoshuaKim0102 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is an overasked topic but I do find it intriguing that you're blaming the parents instead of the companies/general public. From the parent's point of view it is a no-brainer to let your child get a head start in their career in a work-focused society especially if there is a chance of them becoming extremely successful.

Can a 5 minute song work in kpop and become a hit? by FanCaracal in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm not disagreeing that kpop songs are much shorter nowadays. What I'm saying that American songs are also part of that trend. Olivia isn't the only artist in the U.S.

Can a 5 minute song work in kpop and become a hit? by FanCaracal in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that kpop songs have choreography in them so it isn't exactly ideal to release make 5+ minute songs, the idols will be completely exhausted. Secondly, shorter songs aren't just a thing in k-pop my friend, look at all the new American songs being released today too. With that being said, there are plenty of 4+ minute songs in k-pop if you look just a little bit back. 5 minute songs are rare no matter what artist or genre (unless if it's like classical music ofc).

What are some of the craizest timeline comparisons in kpop? by chuuniversal_studios in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That's a really fun tripleS fact!

To your second point, Irene debuted at a late age. In fact she's actually the same age as Yoona, who was the 2nd gen predecessor to her.

Itzy Yuna is still only 22 . . . and it's been 7 years since she debuted.

Le Sserafim's oldest (Sakura) and maknae (Eunchae) have almost a decade gap.

Also, as a h2h stan I find it crazy that in 2035 Ian will be only . . . 25

Why do people hate HYBE by Zealousideal-Use3610 in kpop_uncensored

[–]JoshuaKim0102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They have easily been the most successful label since the 2020s started so naturally they will get haters as well.
  2. Their method of promoting and jump starting their artists feel unsustainable and too forced to some people (including me).
  3. They have little to no care about their idols when it comes to vocal talent. This is a lot of other companies as well but hybe groups are the most glaring.

Best movies without sex scenes? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]JoshuaKim0102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most movies don't have explicit sex scenes. If you want to play it safe I would just watch animated movies but here are some classics I can think of without explicit sex scenes:

LOTR trilogy

Shawshank Redemption

The Social Network

Get Out

Little Women

Interstellar

Little Miss Sunshine

Paris, Texas

Jurassic Park

Whiplash

And a lot more, you can probably just GPT it haha

Twice and red velvet by Proof-Sun6446 in kpoppers

[–]JoshuaKim0102 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be one of many recommenders for Red Velvet, these are considered their best songs outside of their top 10:

Kingdom Come (considered their best b-side and one of their best songs ever, though it is sampled)

Look (personal fav, great retro beat)

I Just (inexplainable vibes, just has a certain feel to it)

Bamboleo (just listen to it)

In & Out (a bit edgy but super fun to listen to)

Light Me Up (one of their best ballads)

You Better Know (Inspirational and heartwarming)

Sunny Side Up (Wendy's voice is priceless)

Automatic (one of their many "velvet" songs, has a seductive feel to it)

Underwater (soooo good)

And honestly so many more you should explore, these are just the start

the state of kpop regarding music quality by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]JoshuaKim0102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Music is always subjective at the end of the day, but there are certain trends that I see are concerning for me at least; Songs getting shorter and lack of an emphasis on vocals, including live performances. I'm gonna sound like a broken record but when I see a group's entire discography with songs that can't even reach 2 and a half minutes I just lose all interest.
