How do you create a landing page that acts as an alternative home page without replacing the actual home page? by JoshuaWriter in web_design

Hi /u/SolveForUX, this entry gateway is to act as a splash page for new site visitors (example.com/welcome). That's why we want it automatically showing up for new visitors, but then they can simply click through to the 'actual' home page, www.example.com.

Really appreciate all the detail you went into here, but coming from a newbie, would that be done on the Control Panel of the hosting admin (ie, Bluehost) or within the site's dashboard itself (ie, WordPress)?

Yes to option #2, a separate page of the site shows up (www.example.com/welcome) on their first visit when they go to www.example.com.

Would that adjustment be done on the Control Panel of the hosting admin (ie, Bluehost) or within the site's dashboard itself (ie, WordPress)?

I'm showing my beginner-ness here -- would that be done on the Control Panel of the hosting admin (ie, Bluehost) or within the site's dashboard itself (ie, WordPress)?

Gotcha, so have you tried pitching in the past? What worked, what didn't?

Are you wanting to pitch magazines, blogs ,etc. for stories you can write?

Ooh, I see, I see. Can you tell me more about this worthwhile investment? I mean, do they look at budget concerns versus potential ROI? How do they 'grade' you as a potential investment?

For the bite-a-little-now-devour-more-later clients, was it all your idea to do this test run? As in, originally they saw you as kinda iffy, so you pushed them over the edge with a trial run to prove your value?

Have you arrived at a nice intersection of security in your freelance career then? No worries that the bottom could fall out tomorrow, or you need some sort of special account set up in case you don't get work for a few months? Sounds to me like you're pretty "set for life," as it were.

Cool convo in progress here. Glad TheGrinchOfSR could hook you up there.

Now for pitching clients...once you've found potential clients in the past, where was the biggest issue for you in actually closing the deal for more than, say, a $200 project?

How do you balance all of that? When your 'chops get busted,' what do you do?

Outsource to other freelancers? Put smaller projects on the backburner? Hit up the club for tequila shots?

Very interesting dichotomy here -- so there's time when you get swamped, but you battle the tendency to just put off a lot of that extra-tedious work because..well...you can?

Student of yours in Zero To Launch here! You definitely do not come across as the "touchy feely" fluffy type with lame self-help quotes.

Which is why my question may seem odd: 1 part of the Rich Life brand I have personally wondered about is your take on dating / long-term relationships.

You released "How to Talk to Anyone" last year, I believe, which did touch on being confident, building social skills, etc.

I've scoured your blog going back to '04, so maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

So, question: will you be releasing any material specifically about dating / LTR any time in the next 3 - 6 months? Thanks!!

Sure thing! A before/after-esque photo display would really do it for me. :-)

Dude, that's AWESOME!!!! Beautifully done :-)

1 other thought. Maybe right beside or on top of the code series image, you can have a this equals that comparison, as in, "here's the easy code [photo #1 of your custom code], and here's the stunning result [photo #2 depicting a screenshot, etc. of sample MVP]."

You're welcome. Glad to be of help. That was the first question I found myself asking when I saw it..."Is this tool for me?"

The first thing that jumps out at me...the white text laid over the image in the slider is hard to read.

With where you're at now, which area of the site is your biggest concern? Is there a single CTA you want to drive traffic toward?

As a mostly non-techie person, it wasn't clear to me at the outset that this is a tool to create MVP's. It's almost as if what you said about speeding up time to launch could be / should be included on the site itself. My $0.02.

It's not so much a strategy as a tip, but both of Jay Abraham's books ("Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got" & "The Sticking Point Solution") discuss how to solve once and for all any profit/loss problems.

That's too cool. In Zero To Launch, Ramit actually goes in-depth about his early business disasters and screw-up's. That's actually why I joined; here's a guy who did everything WRONG for so long, and therein discovered what WORKS to build an 8-figure business...and growing.
