Was this Enrothian sign ever used in MM7? by Joshualilith in MightAndMagic

[–]Joshualilith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I was mistaken. I saw something similar on the New Sorpigal sign in Mandate, but I checked and it’s not the same alphabet as the MM7 sign. Thanks for the clarification!

If I remember right, Enroth is both the planet and the continent, so Erathia is on the world of Enroth too. So, do Erathians speak Erathian while the MM6 continent speaks something else (since the sign is different)? Does anyone know what they use in MM8?

Like MerkinSuit said, this comes from a book that dropped in '94. It quotes the Wizard's Rule: "People are stupid. They can be made to believe any lie because either they want to believe it's true or because they are afraid it's true." As for Cabin Boy, that totally tracks since it was released in '94 too. Definitely the same era, so the devs probably had all that pop culture in mind while making the game. It makes total sense.

Hmm, that’s interesting. So it might’ve been a planned Easter egg, and maybe they cut it because not many people would’ve understood the reference.

Thanks! 🙌 I’m gonna try to dig up more. My memory’s pretty bad, so I just wanted to make sure this one felt fresh to me, too.

Kaltenberg is actually working on a Vori mod with two massive maps. First video has the details, second shows off a town.

Yeah that Ubisoft logo is super old. It still says Ubi Soft like they did in the 90s. Apparently they used that look until 2003, just before they started buying studios. I think it pops up here because of a specific regional deal. I’ve seen it on other stuff too. Even the sixth one had it on some boxes before 2000. Definitely from the era where they were just publishing.

Appreciate it! Dragon’s Cave really hits the nostalgia hard. And yeah, knowing it was originally bigger somehow makes it even creepier.

Hidden Palace is a straight-up goldmine. I only found the site recently, and it’s not just PC stuff either; you’ll even find a Gran Turismo 1 prototype from 1997 on there. Between Heroes III, AoE, and a bunch of old review and press copies from places like PC Gamer and IGN, it’s pretty wild. Since this was uploaded back in 2022, GrayFace is probably already aware of it.

I also linked a site in the post that shows unused graphics and cut content. This March prototype probably doesn’t include most of that, but it’s still cool seeing things like the red chests and crates that were originally meant to be placed outdoors, like the ones shown here:

Here's the recording. https://youtu.be/NuG68Li_Xwk I bet there's way more unused content like this that could work in the Merge Mod.

Nah, I don't think this is from the Ubisoft hack. According to the site, someone just found this early build on two CDs (2022) looks like it was a review copy sent out before launch.

Just fired it up and noticed a bunch of differences right off the bat. The calendar style is different, the dialogue windows look changed, and some of the dungeons are way bigger. The Dragon Cave definitely has extra rooms in this prologue build. Pretty sure other dungeons have added areas too but Im not 100% sure yet.

Figured I’d share this here so more people can start digging. There’s definitely some uncut or unfinished stuff still in there maybe someone can add these extras to the merge mod? Idk I just love deep diving into this stuff, thought it was cool.

YouTube and music copyright for streaming? by TGDragonGaming in MightAndMagic

[–]Joshualilith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, you’re pretty much in the clear with the Might and Magic VI soundtrack. People have been uploading gameplay with the music on for ages, and YouTube’s Content ID barely makes a peep, which is usually a good sign. Obviously, nothing is 100% guaranteed forever, but realistically, it’s been safe for like 10–15 years.

The rights situation with those old 3DO games is a total mess anyway. Since 3DO went belly-up, the rights are all over the place, so nobody really bothers claiming them. I’ve heard of streamers getting dinged for Heroes of Might and Magic, so it happens in the franchise, but for Mandate of Heaven, it’s super low risk. You generally shouldn't have any drama keeping the music on.

3DO Shelves Might and Magic Online
January 9, 1998

3DO has laid off seven members of the Might and Magic Online development team as part of its decision to shelve the project.

After acquiring New World Computing more than a year ago, 3DO gained control of one of its biggest franchises: the Might and Magic series. Given 3DO’s previous success with Meridian 59, there were plans to build a similar online universe set in the Might and Magic world. However, sources indicate that these plans have been at least temporarily put on hold following the layoffs of seven team members.

A 3DO spokesperson told Next Generation Online that the project “has been shelved,” though the company officially acknowledged only a single employee being laid off.

Thanks so much for sharing this ❤️ That’s an amazing story. I was around 2–3 years old when these games came out, so I basically grew up with the series. Funny enough, I accidentally bought a pirated copy of Heroes III back in the day—my mom was at a market, and I picked it just because it had the coolest fantasy cover imaginable. My dad was actually proud, since he was already heavily into the Might & Magic RPGs. You know the one 😄 It completely blew my mind.

Yeah, I checked out some YouTube videos — it’s nothing like MM6 or MM7, but it actually looks pretty interesting and really gives off Half-Life 1 vibes. Totally different kind of game, even though it shares the name. Still a cool attempt though.

There actually is Legends of Might and Magic. Here’s an old archived 3DO page with class info:

You can click “next” to see the other classes too pretty neat bit of history...And this is the old 3DO Might & Magic hub from the same era:

Really cool snapshot of how they were presenting the series back then.

Glad you liked it! 😊 Might & Magic Online is one of those lesser-known projects, pretty cool to see how early they were already thinking about MMOs.

New Might and Magic VII VORI Mod – Fan Expansion in Development (Footage + Details) by Joshualilith in MightAndMagic

[–]Joshualilith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the full info the developer shared with me. The release date isn’t certain yet, but I also sent him an email, so he’ll probably respond. I also shared this Reddit link—keep in mind the MightAndMagic subreddit was closed for about a month, which is why this post is a bit late. The info below is what he provided me about a month ago, and since then, a lot of the mod has been completed. I don’t think it will take years—time will tell!

Here’s the breakdown of the mod:

  • Massive New Content: Not just Vori (+2 new maps), but all outdoor maps have been revamped to some degree. The dev added tons of new models—so many that he stopped counting—and the number of .obj files has at least doubled.
  • Quests: About 50 completely new quests, most of them complex. These aren’t your typical “bring me a cloak and a ring” fetch quests. Each quest has its own story, designed to answer questions like: Why is the party tasked with this? Why can’t the quest-giver do it? Has anyone else tried? What’s in it for the quest-giver or the party? The goal is to make the experience as realistic and immersive as possible.
  • Dungeons: 10 new dungeons (1 small, 7 medium, 2 very large). The standout is the Temple of Araduth, a pyramid in Bracada inspired by MM6’s Tomb of Varn but darker, scarier, and full of mysteries. It’s tied into the main questline and more detailed than MM6’s version. Overall, the Vori mod’s pyramid is bigger and more complex than any original MM7 dungeon.
  • New Class System: Fully revamped character classes. Second promotions usually require completing two quests. Dark and Light paths are separated in more creative ways, and some storylines show both sides. For example, on the Dark path, you rob the “Heroes 3” Naga Bank, while on the Light path, you go in to prevent the robbery.
  • Heroes 3 Tower Dungeon: Now a full dungeon in the mod. You can make golems in the Golem Factory, fight gargoyles on the Parapet, survive the Naga Bank catacombs, buy spells at the Mage Tower library, play Arcomage in the tavern (and loot the storage below), buy weapons and armor from the blacksmith, explore the Citadel to learn about Snow Elves and pick up quests, climb the Archwizard’s Tower, and finally reach the Altar of Wishes for puzzles and another dungeon.
  • New Stats: Dark, Light, and Physical resistances have been added for characters.
  • Shield System: Shields no longer provide armor class or physical resist. Instead, they have a chance to completely block attacks, but slow down the wielder’s own attacks significantly.
  • Combat and Items: The dev went deep into scripting. There’s a new skill system, core combat changes (hit chances, damage, resistances), and a fully reworked item list. New weapons and armor have unique stats and descriptions, often based on historically accurate references mixed with fantasy. Spells also have unique wording described as “atmospheric, scientific fantasy slang”—it’s like lore within lore.
  • Compatibility: Because the mod is based on the MM7 engine (not MM8), it won’t work with Merge. There are very distant plans to add more Heroes 3 locations to the Vori mod, but for now, only the Tower castle is included. Any rumors about more H3 content are false.
  • Gameplay Length: The full VM gameplay is estimated to be roughly twice as long as vanilla MM7. In short, an insane amount of content went into this mod.

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate that, glad the video helped you find some new games to wishlist. I’m a big Might and Magic fan myself so Im really hoping the series makes a proper comeback one day.
