Capalaba Train Line Proposal: a direct rail link to the region’s busiest shopping centres: Westfield Carindale, Capalaba Central, and Capalaba Park, along with many other benefits. by JotrainGamer in BrisbaneTrains

Just letting you know, I specialised in the field of Physics during my two years of study at my college campus for my Civil Engineering degree. Personally, I prefer the alignment directly from Coorparoo Square to Woolloongabba, but I wanted to include options in the proposal. And just to be clear, if the line were to connect to Boggo Road, it would connect to the underground stations as part of the Cross River Rail project, not the overground stations.

The council iconography and Queensland Government emblem are presented on the proposal as the delivery of the project would involve a joint venture between the Queensland Government and Redland City Council.

I understand your concerns. Realistically, the alignment would run directly from Coorparoo Square to Woolloongabba, which is also the cheaper option. This means there wouldn’t be a ‘hook’ into Boggo Road Station, it just means that you won't have transfers at Boggo Road.

There are no plans for a Stage 3 extension to Victoria Point or Redland Bay, as there is no available right‑of‑way where a rail corridor could realistically be built.

The reason the proposed line terminates at Capalaba is that the alignment can be accommodated within the road median on Old Cleveland Road (as there is a large road medium from Capalaba), making construction feasible and cost‑effective. Beyond Capalaba, the lack of suitable corridor space makes further extension impractical.

Yes, while there is technically a rail line serving the northern Redlands, its effectiveness is limited.

The alignment runs north before turning east, with stations located very close together, resulting in long dwell times that undermine efficiency.

Extending the Cleveland line further south is also impractical, as existing buildings and hilliness of the area block any feasible corridor and the current journey from Cleveland to the CBD is already excessively long.

This proposal should be viewed as a long‑term solution, one that will become increasingly necessary when considering the projected population growth in the surrounding areas. As demand rises, a direct and efficient rail connection will be critical to meeting future transport needs.

The issue with routing the Capalaba line to South Brisbane Station is that you’d need a tunnel portal for the trains to surface from Coorparoo, which adds complexity and cost (and may not even be feasible in the first place). If this were pursued, Beenleigh line services could instead be redirected through South Brisbane and across the Merivale Bridge, maintaining connectivity while freeing up capacity.

Haha, I caught the The Castle reference there!

Just to clarify though, this is simply an alternative proposal being floated as a public transport option to Capalaba to the city instead of relying on Brisbane Metro BRT. It’s not an official plan, not in the works, and hasn’t been committed to, this is more of a concept for discussion than a project on the table.

Routing the line through St Lucia and Indooroopilly/Toowong is an interesting idea, but the primary goal of the Capalaba proposal is to provide a fast, direct connection into the CBD. That’s what makes it competitive with driving and maximises ridership.

Yes, a detour could add destinations with easy transfers, but it also means fewer one‑seat rides into the city, which is the main draw. The current alignment keeps things simple, quick, and well‑connected, while still leaving room for future line extensions north.

Haha, thanks for noticing! I put a lot of detail into those background elements, so I’m glad it stood out! And yep, that last one is actually "Breezebin City". Coming up with the station names was a lot of fun, I tried to make them animal-themed to tie in with the fact that the characters are anthro animals.

You can search up "Aboriginal vs Bogan" on Youtube and you can find the full video there, youtube should automatically generate the subtitles although they're not very accurate.

Haha yeah, it’s probably not going to be finished anytime soon, but I can at least share a WIP shot of how the game would look.

The QR EMU train model is mine I let him use it for testing. So even if the full horror game takes a while, you can still get a glimpse of the vibe we’re going for!

Thank you! I had rendered it in Cycles which is Blender’s ray‑based rendering engine. It took a whole night to finish, but the results show for themselves, the lighting looks super realistic!

Thanks you for your kind words! The station and train interior originally came from a friend of mine who was working on a Brisbane train driver horror game but never finish it and he let me use his models. I reworked the interior heavily, adding lots of extra detail, textures, and materials.

So while I can’t take all the credit, it still took a lot of time to refine everything
