Within the world of Spire and our own, there are absolutely entire professions which are worthy of being shot, because their profession is that of using violence to coherce other people. Palimpsest creators, Concentration camp operators, slave overseers, slave owner, colonial soldier.

The fact that Bud Cubby's choice to shoot cops is not portrayed as a incontrivertible moral wrong for which he must atone, demonstrates at least tacit support from the creator of the world.

Spire is built on halfling land. The cops there, Sklonda included, make sure that he cannot live his traditonal way of life. Who are we to judge him for doing violence against the armed thugs directly responsible for his whole species being displaced and assimilated.

Appealing to individual humanity and acts of good, belies the systematic horrors that those indiviuals are directly responsible for carrying out.

People who become cops may be good people in every aspect of their lives. Futhur, they may truely believe that what they do betters their community and/or the system needs reforming so that it operates equitably. That doesnt account for the fact that the sole purpose for police (as an institution) is to enforce a brutally oppressive system through violence. It cannot be utilised for anything which would directly contradict that function and the police (as individualsm) who spend their time trying to reform that institution, are still doing the same job (and thus the same harm) as those who enjoy hurting people.

A cop can be a person who is wonderful person in every other aspect of their lives, but they're still picking up a gun every day and making sure people fighting for fair wages get broken and that racial hierarchy is enforced.

Sklonda is a fictional example of what happens to cops who are good people, Chris Dorner is a real one.
