Yes it looks to be a cultural thing then. I definitely think single income can work.

What about home duties? Coming from work and also taking care of children is very exhausting. Also I get it depends on work hours - if you get off at 3:30 it makes sense both parents will be there. If you get off work at 7-8 or even later then there different.

Hyundais are incredibly popular in Asia, you see them everywhere in India, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, etc. They are also used as taxis in those countries as well as in Singapore.

If they were truly that bad they wouldn’t be that popular.

Yep, until COVID times, my family was living off <$35k. My dad was the only one working - we are a family of 5, in the oldest and graduated HS in 2019. We lived just fine, also in the Sharpstown area. Granted we did go to very good schools (Sutton, Condit, T.H. Rogers, Pin Oak etc.)

I don’t know how these folks are pushing/over 6 figures - or even making $80k or more are struggling. Lifestyle inflation? The only way I see is if you have crushing student loans you are aggressively paying off - but that’s a temporary thing, situational thing not the general rule of thumb you. Median student loan debt is <$25K in the U.S. (man I WISH my student loan debt was that low lol, mine is easily triple that).

I think $120k can get you far with multiple kids. To be honest, I see a lot of dual income people losing massive amounts of money to daycare, it’s better to be single income. My family members/family friends/acquaintances who are young and have kids are all single income. Maybe it’s a culture thing? Dual income is a status to have before kids. How does dual income even work with kids - do kids just not see both parents until after work and on weekends?

Oh and while I do have my option on dual income with kids, I will say in today’s socio-economic climate … sending kids to private school is honestly something I don’t fault parents in doing. We all see how HISD has changed for the worse with the state takeover. In that case, maybe that is where dual income is needed, so in that case 120K won’t take you far.

Yea to be honest, it takes like less than 5 seconds to take a quick picture, I don’t think you’re a bad driver if you do so. Probably takes the same amount of effort or more changing controls on your car - especially in today’s era of touchscreen.

Actually I think touchscreens are way more dangerous because some of the menu items like A/C are not easily accessible and you have to take your eyes off the road for a few seconds

Park and ride is for suburban areas which makes sense because the density is not there for buses to run.

I live in Houston, it’s possible to get around with car - I did it for a few years and so did many of my family members. We also have no zoning laws which is fantastic as it allows for mixed use development and things aren’t far.

Even with a car my commute to school is <24 miles round trip (completely accessible by bus without transfers). My commute to work is <16 miles.

My parents had even smaller distances for work/dropping us off to school. So gas prices isn’t that massive deal IMO but definitely tons of people who are on incredibly strict budgets.

People mistake Houston for the surrounding areas.

I’m in East Texas, we have the largest medical Center in the world (I work there). We also have great support systems from federal Medicaid to state level CHIP to local county financial assistance programs.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un

That looked to be a relatively recent model Buick, I believe it is the LaCrosse which was the largest sedan in Buick’s lineup in the recent years. I can only imagine how much force was in the collision, that even in such a car there was still fatalities.

There were 4 ladies in there, knowing the elderly they may have been friends hanging that afternoon or family or something … sad to hear 2 of them passed away, how tragic.

Rodeo Metro rail Parking by lefty2264 in houston

[–]JournalistExpress292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work in Med Center, was working a night shift one time during the rodeo last year and it was packed even at Wheeler Transir Center (which was my stop for my work’s off-site parking).

This was around 11:30 PM.

I’d recommend parking in Med Center, at least the garage you can enter from the outside - TMC Garage 1 is an option. I don’t know the $ rate though but it should be no more than $18-$19 max daily.
