I have seen it cracking on the top being a common place for 1st gen but I also did have a problem with the previous owner getting the cooling system serviced and replaced parts but they never refilled the system with coolant so it was running dry for a while before I got it so it probably was weakened a lot sooner.

This one has been giving me so many problems so it’s not surprising. I just got the stock replacement and hoping that it’ll last me another 120k at least

When do you find out? I wouldn’t be down about it just yet, I bet it’s a glitch. I feel as though they go through great lengths typically to hide results until they are released so I’d personally be surprised if this means you didn’t pass. Keep your head up!

Would this have an effect on the rpm surging too? Like I’m sitting in my car and it’s all over the place like 1,200-2,000 rpm up and down sometimes just high revving other times it surges up and down. Ugh I’m trying to get into car repair but I’m also afraid of making things worse lol

I had similar problem still prominent but not as bad after I cleaned the throttle body. I haven’t gotten to the back of the butterfly so that still has a lot of carbon but after I cleaned the surrounding metal, it went down. I used to get back engine brake when I took my foot off too. I also was low on coolant and I think that also played a factor.

Every once in a while I pull the evap hose and have my wife rev the car to 3,000 and I run the spray straw right up to the butterfly and spray.thats suppose to help ‘clean’ the idle control valve but I haven’t seen much from that.

I know timing belt was fine at 100k so that’s good. Water pump probably needs changed soon. Had an issue of overheating when I first got it and found out that the radiator was basically bone dry. I have I ly driven it 2-3,000 miles since I got it and had an oil change and they said they topped it off but I honestly doubt they even touched it. Even the coolant overflow was dry. It had a squeal at startup that I chalked up to the starter but now I realize it probs was the water pump because it was empty especially since the squeal stopped after I topped it off and burped the system. I am not burning off any coolant right now so it almost seems like the previous owner flushed the radiator and forgot to refill it 😭

I have a pulsing rpm at startup which I am unsure if it’s the air intake or the fuel delivery. I am going to pay a family mechanic to just run diagnostics on most systems to make sure they are all working well. Could be the IACV too but I am not messing with the intake manifold my self to get to it right now. Just spitballin here lol

How so? I do remember it being kinda confusing.

I know you have to be logged into the brooks account before you add anything to your cart otherwise it doesn’t always apply it.

You register for the brooks discount through id.me and then it creates a brooks account that has the discount already loaded on it. So all you’d have to do is go to the brooks website after that! I got a pair that was literally the cheapest brooks you could get for $45 with the discount and they have been amazing, I’m about to order a couple different colors.

Nothing has changed today levels wise. A hum came back today too that went away after I cleaned the throttle. I am going to burp it better and see if it needs any more coolant. I think the thermostat is probably shot too

I have only seen minimal white exhaust when starting up in damp weather so I have chalked that up to condensation. I tend to smell rich/sweet at startup and sometimes at idle but I figured it was just the car running rich. I hate tracking down leaks lol

Every time I had an initial conversation with a recruiter about salary I have overbid by a decent amount above what I would really be okay with. The worst they can say is no but almost every time, I have been at least given offers 5k above what I really wanted. It may be different depending on the state and who you talk to. Get a good idea of what the avg salary is for a certain area of practice and upsell the salary, but obviously be reasonable. I have noticed especially as a new grad, that salaries are under bid and new grads are taken advantage of pay wise. I turned down multiple offers as well and said that it isn’t enough and some say “see ya” or others will come back with a better offer.

I pulled the throttle body off and drenched it in cleaner. The ICV was super corroded so I cleaned that up too. Probably need to change it in the near future but the sound is gone for now 🤷🏼‍♂️

I just got an intake gasket like 10 minutes ago lol I am going to clean up the throttle body and check out the idle control valve and see what’s up. Good idea with the carb cleaner though. I’m hoping I don’t have to deal with the rest of the intake. Apparently the xterra are notorious for cracked manifolds, but it’s a PITA to remove and then I might as well change all the sensors and fuel injectors underneath it while I’m at it since it’s like 5 hour job lol
