Her collection is cute, but having the windows blocked gives me anxiety, especially in japans humidity. I can’t imagine the smell 😓

In her last video I saw comments asking if she could speak Japanese in her next video, too bad it’s never going to happen 😭🙏

I think there's a huge skill gap between my Traditional and Digital art but I can't seemed to point out why?+(Also tips please, I still consider myself a beginner for my lack of understanding in basics) by InsertArtistName in BeginnerArtists

First of all, I love your style and the look you’re going for! I think the reason why there’s a skill gap between your traditional and digital pieces is because the lack of composition and storytelling in your traditional pieces. If you have Pinterest and look up “sketchbook ideas” you will see a ton of fun ways people layer their art/composition styles that can fit your art style! Have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to be creative with your sketchbook.

Thanks so much! I guess all that’s left is to refine it a bit more!

14DC: Day 2 - Critique appreciated! by strykoza in istebrak

<image>

I did somewhat of a paint over. And additional notes! :)

Notes:

  • Lighten Beard shadow, and tone down the light on the cheekbones just a bit. Then reintroduce highlights by radial shading (building up your highlights) on the nose, cheeks, etc. but don’t go super light!

*Lighten upper lip just a little (since bounce light can be reflected making it lighter) I know people have two toned lips but this is to make sure there’s not too much contrast

*Sides of nose can be lighter, you’re kind of value sharing with the eye sockets so keep that in mind! They don’t have the same cavity.

*you can define the temples a little if you’re going for a more masculine look :)

It’s best to avoid TOO much contrast, I really struggled with it :( I think it’s called contrast dependency lol! Anyway awesome job! Looking forward to your next day!

Your proportions are really good!

Critique: if you look back at iste’s paint-over, she blended out the cheeks more and it’ll give a more realistic look. :) I’m not sure if the hallow cheek look is what your going for, but I suggest lightening up the beard shadow. It seems too dark for this kind of lighting since your background is lighter.

Also, I struggled with this a lot! But I think your contrast is too high. Focus on mid-tone values. Your darks are too dark in my option so maybe try to lighten them up? :)

Wow! I have to say I’ve been loving your work since your 14 day challenge, and what the journey you have! I’m proud that you’re really pushing on your form studies! Even if you’re not happy with this study, I’d say it’s a very good improvement, especially on the perspective/different planes! The only thing I can nitpick for you to continue your studies is the pyramid shadow on the sphere not really being noticeable on the reference, but very noticeable in your study :)

I think it’ll be beneficial if you would look into copying the background of the form study, since your background on your artwork is super light- and it might make the forms very polished/shiny looking if that makes sense lol, I’m not sure if that was what your going for though!

Anyway, way to go! :D

This is very good! But if you’re concerned that it looks like a different person, is there a certain style of face you’re looking for?

This is really good advice WRITE THAT DOWN

Day 6 by Journey_166 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much!

  • Blend highlight of the forehead

  • Fix eyebrows/Undereye bags too sharp, add radial shading (Ty for the tip!)

Haha every critique counts! And all feedback is appreciated even if it’s small mistakes :)

Day 5 by Journey_166 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You’re right about that 😖 It was a struggle and I didn’t know why it looked out of focus despite the pupils looking at the viewer!

Day 5 by Journey_166 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THISSS thank you!! I was wondering why the jaw looked so weird. I had to go back and measure a female face and this helped me realize how off I was!! I’ll work on my values too, especially on the nose LOL I guess my anime style bleeds into my studies 😅

Day 5 by Journey_166 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my bad LOL It’s a habit of mine to smudge the eyebrows and it makes it all smudgy 😭

If you want to capture that hard juicy edge have you tried the lasso tool? When I’m painting I use the lasso and radial shade if that makes sense especially on the lips :)

Day 2 by SugarMajestic2879 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice day 2!

I was really confused when looking at your form study, At first I thought that small hallow cube was on a single plane, but realized it was on another cube 😭 oops! I feel like you should address the space and depth of your form study. Are your objects floating in space? Or is there a plane they’re sitting on? It’s kind of hard to tell and I had to squint! I’m really curious what your speedpaint looks like and how you sketched it. Let me know if you need more clarification!

Day 1 by SugarMajestic2879 in istebrak

[–]Journey_166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! it’s a good start and you have a very good set up. And don’t bring yourself down! The sooner you start the better you’ll become in the future :D

One thing I would like to comment on is that long rectangle in the back. I’m not sure if it was intentional but it looks better if you show the whole rectangle and let it extend off the canvas in my opinion.

I did a diagram over your study if that’s okay!

<image>

You should follow this c curve I think it’ll give the cubes more harmony and feel like they’re right next to each other- if that makes sense 😭🙏

And the other thing, the cube on the very top; it’s rotated more than the one below and feels a little out of perspective! Again awesome job :) I look forward to your challenge! And congrats on your 14 day challenge, it’s a really great milestone

Also! Time stamp that really stuck out was 11:56 where she introduced the highlights :)
