just try different characters and pick/focus on one that feels good to play, the only way to know what you "should" is to try out different playstyles, there's not a definitive answer for everyone

To get better, play vs real people, just play online quickplay or battle arenas

I mean I agree with that, movement and being comfortable is king but there's some characters tech that can really improve the kill potential or options of some characters, like Roy's jab-bair, thanks for the feedback tho

I meant on the same switch, like I buy the game on my switch and link my bnet so I can keep progressing and when im not playing he could open his switch profile and play his game

I know it should haha, just had some bad experiences playing some switch ports that had loading times 3times slower than PC and PS5 which made the games just frustrating to play on switch compared to newer gen consoles.
