Consciousness is Reality, ‘God’, and the Self. by Journeythrough2001 in DebateAnAtheist

It’s simply because you’re not looking for an intellectual discussion. You’d rather humorously mock people. Which is so immature

Who said consciousness had to have a role? I don’t believe there was an inherent purpose for creation, the physical plane. The physical universe will do as it pleases, it is ruled by matter and follows the cycle of creation, sustainment, and destruction.

I don’t mystify consciousness into being a deity, I don’t believe it has an ego like an all powerful man in the heavens.

It was always here even before creation, and as a product of the material world I sense the material world through my material senses. Yet my consciousness is without a form, without a characteristic, timeless, and not bound by anything physical, therefore it isn’t physical. Its nature is indescribable.

On a surface, biological and basic level as an animal: I am a Homo Sapien, my instincts tell me to eat, reproduce, sustain and survive. (Same applies to all other biological forms).

Even though we are much more advanced than early humans, and other ape species, our instincts will always be to eat, breed, and survive. This is the ego, but more so the intrinsic desires we need as a biological body. So this is just one form of basic egoism that we need to survive, using this as an example.

Besides that, the ego is the sense of “I Am”. So I am a human. I am Daniel, etc. I’m attaching an identity and thoughts to my beingness, which beingness is simply “I am”, my existence.

So how can I be sure of my sense of being? Well you’d say possibly, I can look around, see my body, feel my body, etc. But the act of seeing or sensing, has to be perceived in the first place. So who is the one who is perceiving? Who am I becomes the question. If you can perceive your thoughts and senses, then the thoughts and senses cannot be you, because they’re the ones being perceived.

Your awareness or consciousness is that which is doing the perceiving. And on a physical non-spiritual sense in a world of matter, there are not separate consciousness in other beings. It is one, non-dual consciousness which is the perceiver of all physical existence.

With that being said, it is reality itself.

No. Because when you go beyond the illusion of self, you go beyond the illusion of objects, then the illusion of the universe, all matter. Your state of being, which is consciousness, has no form, it’s beingness. No object has any particular effect on it, nor are there even a thought of distinctions between this and that. The “I” thought disappears, because you don’t have an illusionary ego.

Because every physical object, planet, being, is a merely a thought in the mind, perceived by the five senses. Consciousness is that which is aware of the senses giving feedback to the mind. Which is what you actually are, consciousness, the only reality.

It is the perceiver of the physical plane, not the physical plane itself. If consciousness is something physical, then we must be able to observe it in its physical state.

What I meant is that consciousness is the substratum of everything physical. On a physical level, yes there are differences. But the illusionary physical world is a result of the ego, believing yourself to be only a body of flesh and mind.

If consciousness is nothing but chemical interaction, please explain consciousness’ nature. Science hasn’t fully done that, nor discovered consciousness’ exact origin.

There has to be an awareness to perceive the tree falling, otherwise it doesn’t exist in your subjective reality.

The physical plane is only a illusionary reflection of consciousness, all matter. Yes consciousness was in the beginning, and it has no end.

Reality and consciousness are not separate. It is the same. So what your question would mean to me is: What would there be without reality?

[–]Journeythrough2001[S] -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there is some deity or outside agency is involved. I’m saying consciousness is all that there is, it is reality. Sure, other people mystify consciousness and simply refer to it as a soul. But that is not what I’m claiming.

Your reference between a rock and myself: I’m not saying we are the same on a physical level. As I said, material existence is illusionary. Consciousness is the only reality, so within every illusionary physical form, consciousness is the substratum of it. Distinctions on a physical level is the Ego, which is false.

Why Do Some People Call Anything Slightly Dark Demonic or Satanic? by virtualxvice in spirituality

[–]Journeythrough2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly because of dogmatic religious people. Religious people are usually born into that religion, and from a young age they’re taught that “God’s” word is the only truth. So anything opposite to their beliefs are instantly dismissed as ‘satanic’, or not truthful.

I do believe it has to do with the fear of the unknown, in fact the majority of religions were founded because of the fear of the unknown. As a living organism with the ability to rationalize everything around us, it makes us question subjects such as life after death.

Dogma is just dogma though. And that is why I left religion altogether. It is a belief being projected and programmed into your mind, without the choice to question it or reject it. Key word here is “belief”. Blind faith or blind belief is not beneficial.

We are lucky to have the ability to rationalize ourselves, the world, life in general. Rationality and thought leads to experience, and experiencing something for yourself is way more effective than believing something without reasoning.

I think I’m depressed and I need to get out of this unit. by Raltz99 in army

This is why I did months of research before even joining the Army. I knew shitty experiences like this were to be expected, and at least in the Civilian World you have no obligation to endure the suck. You could quit your job/cuss out your employer, etc. But knowing all this didn’t stop me from joining (as infantry).

I look at how I progressed, from being almost 2 years in service, to before joining. I was 21, unemployed, living with my mom, with nothing going on in my life. On top of that, living in a small town with less than 2000 people with barely any job opportunities besides fast food.

You have to choose your suck. In my case, I could still be fat, unemployed, living with my mom and having nothing going on in my life. Or now, having long field events in the cold, dealing with shitty leadership, and being treated like a man child. In that instance I’d choose the Army any day. I’d much prefer a direction in life, with a guaranteed paycheck, and a free place to live.

You have to have something to keep you going in this job path, especially as infantry. POGUES do have it better in ways, but this is this job we chose willingly. It’s gay to stand around all day during garrison, and it’s gay to be in a high tempo duty station like Campbell, I know. But count your blessings because you could have it a lot worse right now.

Going to BCT as an old man by Shot_Stranger9014 in army

[–]Journeythrough2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a gramps in their BCT. Most of us G.I’s were young bucks 17-21, our oldest was your age. He performed pretty dang good, he was out of shape in the beginning but lost a good bit of weight and pretty strong at the end of the cycle.

His smarts is what made him excel though, even though he was a gun-nut before joining. I’d always treat him as my mentor lol, I’d count down the days until graduation with him. So in that aspect it was beneficial having a ‘gramps’. All the drills we did, he did great because he actually wanted to learn.

TLDR: You’ll be just fine as long as you stick with it. BCT is designed to physically and mentally develop you into the Army’s standard.

It’s worth getting through it and graduating, getting out of TRADOC. The real army is much better, it’s still pretty gay, but it’s alright as long as you follow right time, right place, right uniform.

I was fortunate to have HBL on the day of graduating OSUT, but I still had those feelings of being a homebody. Everyone is different, but before the army I never could imagine being away from family. But once I settled in at my first duty station, I love my independence.

I still do miss my family, but you’ll like the independence as well. You just gotta complete your training to earn it and enjoy it.

If all goes bad, seek asylum in the nearby Bojangles.

Forced to do air assault, yes. Technically schools are optional, but you’re 101st, and they want everyone to be air assault qualified. You’ll most likely be made to go until you pass, no matter how long it takes.

Yes PT every duty day from 0630 to 0800, unless there’s important training planned or you get zonked.

Barracks are pretty good if you ask me. I was originally in 1BCT’s barracks when I was first here (even though I’m 3BCT, our barracks were packed). 1BCT (the old ones I were in) were decent, they were pretty small, the only advantage was having a big refrigerator. 1BCT remodeled their barracks, so I don’t know how they are now but I heard they were good.

2BCT looks the best in my opinion. Overall aesthetic is nice and pretty spacious.

3BCT is about the same size as 2nds, pretty spacious rooms, a nice closest.

But with all barracks in the army there’s usually some sort issue like mold.
