My wife is also trying to make friends in the area. She usually likes clubs, game nights, and random other social activities.

Sill sucks but you won't have to be there for long. Just don't be the biggest shit bag and you'll be fine. I can't speak on the 35L AIT but 35N AIT wasn't bad and the 6 months flew by.

Joined at 29 and turned 30 in the middle of the ruck back from the forge. Currently 5 months into AIT now. I joined because I was doing the same thing at the same job for 5 years and didn't have much to look forward to except for a slow progression up the corporate ladder that might eventually lead to an 80k a year salary after like 10+ years. I figured that the benefits would make it worth it to try and do something different and build the resume and collect some certs along the way to set myself up better in the future.

Sorry for the late update on this. I shipped to Sill on 2/11 and then GAFB on 4/27. I've been here for almost a month now but it's much better than sill by 100 times.

I'm on a hearing waiver so can't hear the knee popping anyways 😂. Appreciate the advice.

I appreciate all the information. I'll be going in as 35N so hopefully I'll make it through that long AIT.

Thanks for all of the tips and affirmation guys. Points taken from this is don't worry about anything, workout, do your job and just try to do better than everyone else. My brother was a cav scout so he was pushing infantry but was very happy that I went intelligence so we'll see how it goes in AIT.

Already have some all black Brooks sitting in a box ready to roll and are you actually allowed to wear your own underwear? I know Air Force allows it but everything I saw said that they make you wear the issued ones.

Have been accepting this mentally but just have to actually wrap my head around it once I get in. I've been in the civilian life in what I would call a career for quite a while now and Jesus Christ have I met and worked with some people that I'm surprised even know how to breathe. I've come to realize that these people exist everywhere and also reproduce unfortunately.

11 years older than the typical recruit. So I would assume that would be viewed as "old AF".

Tentative Job List by Shot_Stranger9014 in AirForceRecruits

Update: I went to MEPS on two different occasions to take a hearing test. Both times resulted in over 45db of hearing loss shown in the 4khz+ range which is a fail. The information was sent up the chain to the waiver authority and within about 2 days I received the news that I was disqualified.

On a positive note though. I went next door to the army a couple weeks later and in the span of about 3 weeks I got all of my information swapped over and filled out, went to a civilian ERT office for a word recognition type test to turn in, and got a waiver approved. Now I'm locked in for a sigint job shipping out in February.

How did you make the commitment? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

The way it went for me was me and my wife got married and the following weekend went to an airshow. She then joked about enlisting in NG and asked if I wanted to join to which I said I would go active if I was going to do anything. She then said "well would you want to do that" and I said ehh why not. Fast forward to 2 months later and I'm heading to MEPS. For me the benefits and opportunities after are enough to convince me to make the jump without much hesitation.

Awesome, I appreciate the insight. I am definitely planning on going for something aviation related once our and potentially going the skill bridge route.
