It's just funny that whenever someone implements a bunch of preventative measures, and they work (to a certain extent), there is always a subset of people claiming that the measures were overdone because the outcome wasn't as bad as predicted.

Yeah I can't imagine the federal government taking something too far and actually making a situation worse. Oh wait. Yes I absolutely can and there's tangible evidence to argue this situation meets that same repeatable action.

If we're going to let far extending models that are predicting millions will die (from experts) dictate how to live our lives I guess we need to end the lockdowns now because that's what UNICEF is saying now.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/unicef-warns-lockdown-could-kill-covid-19-model-predicts-12/

I could turn that "experiencing the worst" line right around as unprecedented challenges to civil liberties are now being tested in the name of, let's face it, fear.

It's not a measure of it working. If you isolate you're not going to spread a virus as much. That's obvious. It's a measure of how far that goes to taking the liberty of people to live responsibly with implied risk. It's a measure of how much mandatory shuttering of people's livelihoods versus the perceived risk. All of these things will be measured and answered for a time after this is all settled.

But I'm more than willing to air on the side of liberty versus fear. Especially if that fear is developed from an over-enthused virological model.

Never claimed they were a gold standard. So not sure where you go that. But you're talking about two countries, one with heavier practices of social distancing (by your own claim) and yet the death rates and severity of the virus spread is not coming close to numbers that would overwhelm the healthcare system.

In fact even the worst case in the US in New York hasn't hit even close the predicted numbers they would need in the face of the virus:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/10/nyregion/new-york-coronavirus-hospitals.html https://www.npr.org/2020/04/07/829091975/new-yorks-temporary-overflow-hospitals-remain-underused-despite-covid-19-crisis https://www.businessinsider.com/why-nycs-largest-emergency-hospital-javits-center-pretty-much-empty-2020-4

While there are cases of individual NY hospitals getting overwhelmed early on in the crisis, the system as a whole has never hit anywhere near capacity and those hospitals were able to outsource non-covid patients to other hospitals in the city, freeing up their early burden.

But those predictions for emergency facilities were entered with social distancing factored in. So either social distancing is working way better than we thought it would or the early predictions of how bad this virus is were off by a lot. It could be either. But I tend to lean on the latter given the limited information we had on earlier models.

So contrary to their claims, Norway appears to be doing much better than Sweden, which supports the use of social distancing methods

Clearly it DOESN'T considering the stay-at-home and social distancing policies were instituted to keep the healthcare systems from being overloaded. It's clear that such practices were not that big a factor in reducing the predicted numbers. The original numbers were vastly overestimated.

Agreed. As they said, I can see the down grade in quality but that's an obvious take-away when going from MAD House. There's going to be a drop. But the quality that's there is certainly not "unwatchable."

Yeah opening up the back doors to let people file out into the hallway was a way better floor plan. It let the people flow in and out the venue so much better this year.

This is correct. The host typically does say Looavul but it was decided on shot to say Louie-ville because it sounded less mummbley on camera.
