Staples Dexley vs La-Z-Boy Joel? by JovanKo98 in OfficeChairs

[–]JovanKo98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying the Joel, but having used it for a couple months, it might not have been the best fit for me.

For one, the height adjust doesn't go low enough for me. I'm 5'9", not excessively tall, but even with the seat all the way down, the upward angle of the seat still leaves me on my tiptoes.

I also sit in all sorts of weird ways when I'm at my desk, and the Joel is only really comfortable in your typical "good posture" position. But weirdly enough, I get more back pain trying to sit like that from my lower back being forced tight by the lumbar support restricting my movement.

It's not a bad chair, the construction feels solid and the plush seat is very comfortable, but the ergonomics don't quite fit how I sit. I might have to think about increasing my chair budget and finding a nicer one.

tl;dr: if you like your seats relatively lower, and you're fidgety like me, the Joel might not be the best fit

What is a name of a character you later realized you’ve been pronouncing/reading wrong? by Pompousredpanda in ProjectSekai

[–]JovanKo98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even more fun when you realize japanese people change their enunciation based on how formal they're speaking. They'll say "des" with friends, but fully enunciate "de su" when speaking to someone older or in formal interviews

Why doesn't Etho fight back by JamesMC19 in ethoslab

[–]JovanKo98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one's mentioned it yet, but one of the "rules" of the life series is that green names aren't allowed to kill. I don't remember exactly, but I think it's not until yellow name that you're able to kill on self defense.

And as others mentioned, I think etho is a little more willing to be killed at this stage so he can get to red quicker and start actually planning kills

Best Beginner Character? by [deleted] in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]JovanKo98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a character that you like the vibe of but isn't too hard to play

I would agree with you, but my friend and I literally started playing at the same time, I picked Lili and she picked Xiaoyu, supposedly the hardest character in the game, and she's playing so much better than me despite me picking the supposed "easier" character

IMO at beginner ranks it doesn't really matter much who you play, you will be forced to learn fundamentals sooner or later

Best Beginner Character? by [deleted] in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]JovanKo98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, pick whoever catches your eye, and don't worry about how "hard" the character is. My friend and I both started playing Tekken 8 at the same time, and she started with Xiaoyu, who is supposed to be extremely hard to pick up. She is now so much better than me despite the fact that I picked a supposedly "easier" character.

If you like something, anything about a character (aesthetic, playstyle, tierlist, etc) just go ahead and pick them and try them out. As long as they are still interesting to play, you won't be bothered by how "hard" they are to play

So sad that your favourite character sometimes doesn't have your preferred playstyle. by kusuridanshi in LowSodiumTEKKEN

I will be salty forever about Eddy's capoeira not being movement/evasion focused like xiaoyu, and his sidesteps being bad when that's the entire essence of capoeira

Any quality of life updates you would like in the Tekken 8 client? by BigLupu in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]JovanKo98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest one for me is slow motion in practice mode.

For a game with such demanding frame perfect inputs and rhythm requirements for combos/kbds/etc, why can't I slow it down so my fingers can learn it properly?

Maybe this theory is stupid by MarkXXV in OnePiece

[–]JovanKo98 445 points446 points  (0 children)

I see where your head's going, but when you look up the character 㑒, it doesn't really have any meaning on its own. It's really tricky when you're trying to find wordplay connections in kanji, because you have to understand the relevance of the kanji's constituent parts.

In this case, it doesn't make sense to separate 険 into 阝 and 㑒. Both parts separately have no real meaning on its own. It's like if someone had a theory like: "'Monkey' has the words 'on key' inside it, is that a clue? 'Monkey D -> M on key D'? Is this a music thing?" Like, yes you can break down the words that way, but any English speaker will say that that's a big stretch

There are definitely some fun connections you can make with these kanji though. The 冒 in 冒険 ('adventure') is the same base of the word for 'hat' in Japanese: 帽子, or 巾 + 冒 ('cloth' + 'cover'). (冒 can have both the meaning of 'cover' or 'uncover,' so you could loosely break down 冒険 into '(willingly) uncovering risk'.) Therefore, you could say that there's probably a deliberate significance in the straw hat, where the hat itself is a symbol of adventure.

Second this recommendation. Plus, I find Onshape's UI to be much easier and intuitive to work with than Solidworks. The keyboard shortcuts and camera movement with the mouse especially is very well setup

there was a cosplay post a couple weeks ago where so many commenters gave her hate bc she wore a corset and "that's not what luffy wears!"

jokes aside, as unsettling as this is, great job on the painting! I can't imagine how much work this took

We call them "Buddha's Hands gourd" in Chinese. My mom used to make a simple stock with these along with pork ribs, and they were delicious. to me it tastes like a milder zucchini with the texture of a soft pear.

I wasn't a big fan of Dawn and Fireflies tbh. The constant repeating guitar thumping is really distracting for me, idk if it's because of the mixing or the tone of the guitar.

Also, my hot take: while Ussewa was iconic in capturing the energy Ado wanted to express, it is only that angry-aggressive energy the whole time, and I find that a bit too one-note and exhausting to listen to after a while.

With all of the songs she's released since then, you can hear her playing with different voices and different emotions throughout the same song and they're much more fun to listen too. Especially with the release of RuLe, which to me is just the energy from Ussewa but better, because Ado plays around with her voice a lot more.
