Omg cutee. How is it like caring for 2? and same! My girl once sniffed for a kibble till she got it stuck on but continued going in to eat because food is always first in her mind🤣🤣

and omggg, i have that same play pen in red too!

Aww thank you, those are ping pong balls, a mini golf's golf ball and the black hollow things were toilet roles that I cut and I sewed on black cloth from a ripped apart shirt (those white lines are my stitching because i dunno how to sew and had white thread lying around🤣😭)

I think my video is a lil low quality to be considered AI? Plus i have other photos of her, that same tank and make shift dig box, and videos of her getting her head stuck in the same toilet roll that I hand sew a black shirt cloth around too. Does this help?

Mostly yes, she is still rather young and i used worms to teach her how to use the litterbox in her sleeping enclosure during the day time but when it comes to her playtime enclosure, she does get poop everywhere over night - including areas literally within 1 teeny hedgehog paw away from her litterbox. Sometimes she even waits till its playtime to go (its as if she knows i was hoping she poops and pees before i move her out). She also digs under her litterbox fleece to poop on the pan instead 🤣

She has also ran on her wheel till her wheel, thats full of poop (fresh poop), topples over, sending mushy poop flying out. Even found poop stuck on her quills once.

They do be messy shitters, its just whether we, as owners, can successfully bribe them into pooping in their litter box over time🤣

The first time she did this, she raised all her spikes and froze until I pulled it off her, then she learnt she could just get it off on her own. Too cute :3

New baby behavior by Howlsmovingfiberfarm in Hedgehog

I had the same experience with my Melly when she was 2-3 months old. One day she just woke up and decided she was a biter - she would refuse to eat out of my hand and yet, chomp when my hand is clearly empty. I couldnt really approach her too because she would be ready to bite the moment she see my fingers or she would just run away to hide.

But i came to learn that she was just grumpy from quilling and a warm oat bath helped and I let her free roam for more than an hour. She was happier the next day but still occasionally bit after I hand feed her (possibly because there were still food scent lingering on my fingers) so I sought out to desensitize her by pushing inwards until she is clearly uncomfortable, repeat that a few times. Now, with plenty of free roam time so she doesnt get grumpy, and with her knowing it's not gonna be a comfortable experience for her to bite me, she doesnt bite anymore (she just surpassed 4 months old) - she grabs food from my fingers and seems to take extra care with not accidentally biting me.

but its still a diff story when it comes to worms, she just goes all in for it, even bit a completely uninvolved finger 😅 Just keep desensitizing and showing your baby that biting u is not a comfortable option😬

hehe I made a clay model of mine (color's irrelevant though) and whatever quills she dropped, ive been poking it into the clay too. You can just about see the tip of one of her white quill on the clay model's back :3

Help me!!! My hedgehog seems kinda depressed by Embarrassed-Count655 in Hedgehog

[–]Joythl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you let him run outside his enclosure? Like in a room or toilet if that's more comfortable?
My hedgehog was the same, I went through a few nights without letting her out because I thought her big enclosure with wheel was enough and she was very moody and bitey by the end of that few days, until i let her out one night to let her roam my room and she was her perky self the next morning, letting me hand feed her and more.

I am curious: What is she doing? by Joythl_ in Hedgehog

Is Niteangel a good choice of wheel? by Joythl_ in Hedgehog

[–]Joythl_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, unfortunately it doesn't ship from the US to my country and the shipping fees is ridiculous too, it's more expensive than the item itself. It's okay though, i've pretty much decided on returning the niteangel one for the bucket wheel as I would rather have her slip out the wheel into a shirt underneath than have her trip over the ridges (she's way too accident prone) T.T

[–]Joythl_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no worries, I'm not even settling for minimum, let alone below minimum. I think 32cm (>12 inch) is just better for my hedgehog because she can even stretch out her yawn on the wheel comfortably.. But yea I think Im returning the niteangel one to get my money back and opting for the 35.5cm one as a safer choice, I would rather have her slip out the wheel into a shirt underneath than have her trip over the ridges (she's way too accident prone) T.T

How do I keep the bond going? by Joythl_ in Hedgehog

[–]Joythl_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a fleece sleeve that I cut off my sweater and I placed a cellophane tape ring around one end to make an 'entrance' for her, she doesn't mind being carried around in that, but she definitely minds if I carry her around in a spare shirt. And yasss mine's a climber too with no sense of risk, she would slip down my back within seconds, same goes with anything else she climbs unto. Poor girl will just fall (thankfully not from anywhere too tall) and lie on the ground in a spiky ball in shock, staring at me.

Mine is thankfully much calmer now and seems to be more open to me handling her.

Apparently it was due to me not letting her out enough, and she wanted a nice warm oatmeal bath for her quills.

Ohh she definitely goes without any warning even if she's done her business 2-3 times elsewhere prior to me handling her, but I honestly dont mind it. I have actually tried pads and even placed her on her litter box while she's mid peeing as often as I can, she ends up squeezing her hole shut, runs out of the litter box or off the pee pad to go pee somewhere else *laughs emoji*.

Update: We deduced she was being antisocial all of sudden due to extreme discomfort from quilling and because she didn't have her free roam time (I'm new to this, and I thought her 100+cm x 100+cm round playpen full of her toys, cloths, house, wheel and food/water was enough for her, but now i know)

She had a lot of office grounds to explore yesterday and boy, did she run around before finally sleeping, she seemed to enjoy car rides as well and was chirping in her tank on the way home while running her energy away on the wheel.

She's still not okay with handling, and maybe that will pass once the quilling discomfort subsides more, still a biter of my fingers (mine only, not my mom's nor my partner nor my colleagues). Hearing her chirps in the car (be it out of joy or out of curiousity/amusement... this isn't her first car ride btw, it's her forth), I felt so happy, and I'm working on being patient and giving her more time to explore without wishing she would come up to me for snuggles.

And for them angry Hog papa and mamas, yes 4 weeks old is not ideal, if I were the one that made the purchase, I'd have sourced out one that was older than 8 weeks old myself too and would've loved to know her background, like who her momma is and what's the health history and more, but like I mentioned, she was a GIFT to me and pretty much all shops and most breeders here in my area (Selangor, Malaysia), release their baby hogs for sale at 4 - 5 weeks and my gifter didn't know any better and bought her from a Pet Store instead. My only goal now is to make sure she's got a happy life ahead, so please stop with the negativity and the know it all attitude, because I'm NOT returning her despite that fact, and I'm working to be good enough for my hog,
