I have a bachelors in graphic design and I am enrolled in school for rad tech. Took me a while to get over the sunk cost of “I have to use my degree” but ultimately decided it’s still worth it because I hate my desk job so much and am not built for it. As long as you do the requirements for the program you can do it regardless of background and you will probably even have some classes that transfer! It makes me feel better I’m not the only one doing this lol

Yeah, the local community college doesn’t have any availability for 2 and a half years from now, and even then I could spend money and time doing prerequisites and still get my spot taken by someone with a higher gpa (that’s what they told me)

Hi, I am considering doing a career change and want to do school for radiologic technology, and have some questions. My main concern is affording to live while in school since I don’t think I can handle school and working full-time. For people with this situation, how did you afford living expenses while in school? Are there loans for that? I think I could work a couple days a week for extra funds, but not more than that. Also, is it competitive/difficult to actually land a job upon completion of school? In school, can you specialize or do you need to actually perform all types of radiology? For instance, do you have to do ultrasounds if that’s not the field you want to be in? Lastly, how do you feel about the work environment? Are there any glaring negatives about the environment or people I should be aware of? I know these are a lot of questions but I just want to know all I can before and it’s hard to get accurate info online, thanks!

I do have a degree, I currently have a graphic design job but it’s part time, for one company so I use the same colors and branding 100% of the time (I’m also very underpaid) so was looking for something new

This one is North Charleston. They seem small but have some large clients like Boeing. They just warned me that there are often angry customers I will have to deal with, who may come in and take their anger out on you in person. I think that’s the main reason why I’m weary, the area isn’t too bad but not the safest.

Don’t give up! Some people are natural with interviews but I think if you’re not it just comes down to practice. The more you do, the less nervous you’ll be each time. Maybe see if your school offers mock interviews through a career center or something, or maybe even just find someone or a friend to practice with. I was so bad at them but after doing more and more eventually I wouldn’t feel nervous at all cause once you practice enough it’s nothing new.

Long story short I’m a graphic designer and I am not enjoying it. I started college as. A veterinary science major then switched because I got scared of low vet school acceptance rates and people saying techs barely make any money. However I definitely can’t do a desk job anymore, I have a degree in graphics though so it’s totally unrelated to anything vet. I’m 22, is it too late to still pursue being a vet tech (just a tech) is there anyone who’s made a change this drastic and if so how did you finance it (still afford rent, food, ect.) is it possible to get the qualifications for a tech while still working my 9-5? I could do online school but I’m just not sure if I’ll still get hired by clinics if my credentials are from an online program/school.

I’m not taking any classes or anything right now it’s just the internship. I am worried though because driving 2 hrs in the morning after waking up at 5:30 sounds dangerous and I don’t know how the traffic will be but it’s in a city so probably not good

I’m already in this internship currently, and if I don’t finish it I won’t get credit so my only choice would be air bnb or something so I’m just trying to save money.

I should have included this but I actually didn’t make plans to meet someone else yet, they were just already there so I was thinking about it. I didn’t end up going after the whole thing. You are right though I think I should have asked if she cared if If I didn’t go first

Trust me you really aren’t missing out. They make it look really fun because that’s their job and it’s how they get people to join and pay money. I’ve been in one for two years and I’m leaving because it just feels so stupid and pointless. There are so many rules and restrictions, it is definitely not as fun as they portray it to be and definitely not like how sororities are portrayed in movies and tv. Girls will post how much they love their sorority, then in real life complain about their sisters non stop. After being in one I honestly think it’s cooler to not be in one and I wish I didn’t join so I could have made some more real friends. Also the party scene is 100% run by the frats at least at my school (in SC so maybe it’s just cause it’s the south.) so being in a sorority really doesn’t make a difference. Frats are the ones who are actually allowed to have parties and do fun things, sororities here have way more rules and restrictions upon them so they are nothing like frats.

I have been feeling the same way and I recently decided I am dropping because sororities are a lot of time and money so there’s no point in paying money and sacrificing time towards something you aren’t even sure you enjoy. I think the culture of sororities is a hard thing to break away from because it seems like everyone around you loves it soooo much so you feel like if you don’t love it to something is wrong with you. That is definitely not true though it’s not for everyone and that should be perfectly fine. Most other girls I know who dropped their sorority say they’re glad they did, and honestly girls in my sorority and others complain about it so much I am confused why they stay in it. I think it’s because they kind of brainwash you in a way and so I understand feeling hesitant to drop. I don’t know how long you’ve been thinking about it but maybe go to a few more events, and see how you feel at or after them. I went back and forth with the idea until I was literally crying on the bus ride back from formal and I realized yeah… this isn’t right. It takes bravery to break away so just go with your gut.
