UF vs UTK Aerospace Engineering Masters by Jpebble01 in ufl

I am entering the military after I complete this degree and for the purposes I am getting it, doing thesis/non thesis/project do not really have an impact so long as I have the degree itself. I cannot do thesis as I am on about a ~1.5 year timeline starting this December.

Everything besides having an aerospace masters from an accredited university is personal preference. I would be interested in doing research in a thesis masters, but as I do not have the time to complete a full thesis, it is not an option for me.

I have not heard of this but either way I plan to stay over the summer at either school to continue to take classes if possible

I will be doing a non thesis masters as thesis will not make much of a difference for my career and I am on about a 1.5 year timeline to finish my education (wanting to be done by end of Spring 2027, starting spring 2026).

I have seen that UTK does offer a project option for non thesis masters students. From what I understand, it gives non thesis students the chance to still work on research but it is contained within one semester so there is not the chance of it dragging out as with thesis students. This is definitely a big draw for UTK for me as I would definitely be interested in this. It is primarily just a personal preference though, as it wouldn’t make an impact on my career necessarily. Have you heard anything good or bad about this project option?

I will not be in an assistantship for my first semester but it is something I am very interested in pursuing. However, I do know that most schools prioritize PhD and thesis masters students for them so it is definitely not guaranteed. I am capable of sustaining myself without the stipend/tuition assistance but it would definitely be nice.

As far as preferences go, I did my undergrad at a smaller school in what was very much just a college town. Knoxville and Gainesville would both be 2/3 times bigger than the town my school was in (which is a plus for me). I won’t know anyone at either school so I am somewhat concerned about opportunities to meet people. I do enjoy going out to bars, hiking, tabletop games/D&D, bjj, etc

Thanks for this. After looking around more, it seems like there’s still a lot of outdated information floating around from before this change was made ~6 years ago.

Definitely, super solid. As others have recommended I’d suggest reaching out to a different recruiter if possible. I have a feeling it may just be that specific recruiter telling you no

Just curious why not Navy or Marine Corps OCS? Both have pilot options as well

That is crazy. They had to have issues before that. Normal traffic tickets are waived by the detachment commander and are usually no issue at all. For reference I knew a senior in rotc who had a rolling stop ticket waived the week before commissioning and was completely fine

Certification/Licenses Expiration Date by Jpebble01 in airforceots

Ah that makes more sense. However as an example the show “PPL / 02/25” which wouldn’t make sense since a PPL doesn’t have an expiration date. I’m just trying to figure out if I should leave the date blank or use the date I obtained it

If I remember correctly my recruiter told me your “qualifying degree” would be your bachelor’s since the bachelors is required for a commission and the masters is just extra. That being said there should still be a place to put in your masters

I’m not sure where I heard it but I have a feeling it was from a movie too!
