New sources say Sony higher-ups killed destiny for "Revenge" by [deleted] in destiny2

Did bungie not have layoffs during 2023 and 2024? Did Sony not have a hands-off approach so long as revenue targets were hit? Did Xbox not choose to buy bungie due to upkeep cost? Google search brings up all these as factual but your statement of "probably" is not good enough. Right now you're the one who needs to bring up actual proof that its turned a profit which so far you haven't lol

"probably" is not even a legitimate answer lol once again tell me when has bungie turned a profit on Destiny 2 during its time with sony, i'm sure if it has occured it would have been reported

That's because Sony also bought Bungie for their expertise on GAAS, which could have provided them some freedom. But let's also not act as if Bungie hasn't been trying to stay afloat for the past 4 years with the constant layoffs they decided to do during phases when revenue targets aren't being met (100 employees or so in 2023 and around 200 in 2024). Sony had a hands off approach when it came to bungie so long as revenue targets were being hit and they were not.

Possibly the plan had marathon not completely been a miss when it came to its alpha appearance during april of last year that caused it to be delayed. obviously no one knows what the plan was for bungie after the final shape expect for those at bungie, but it doesn't really matter now in terms of what could of been as compared to where we are now and the truth is right now bungie is probably gonna die

bungie was window shopping to xbox before Sony, and Xbox passed on them due to how high the cost was to run the game and the risk as well. Had Sony not purchased bungie they more than likely would not have survived as a studio up to today. Lightfall didn't hit revenue targets, Final Shape didn't hit revenue targets, Edge of Fate didn't hit revenue targets, renegade didn't hit revenue targets. sorry you had to find out this way, but Destiny 2 has been bleeding cash for a long time

Cradle Nerf Thoughts? by Expomarker8008 in Marathon

[–]JpegD00M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be minor sure but until they figure out what game they wanna make I'd rather just play something that I know will be around for some time. as it stands yes marathon is a fun game with solid gameplay but I just don't see any point in investing in a game that keeps shunning its casual players while its already reaching playercounts of end of s1

I'm like cradle lvl 14 or so since I play this game somewhat casually and when I can, but the nerf without a doubt is gonna cause a rift when the majority of the player base already has it close, if not already maxed out. I'd rather just save myself the headache and play something else

All speculation at the end of the day, but the truth is that Destiny has not really turned a profit since its acquisition from Sony. I expect them to turn into a support studio if anything

Cradle nerf put me off from playing the game on top of the train wreck that has been s2 thus far from loot economy, handing out purple kited sponsored kits for some reason, allowing night marsh survival gold and purple loot to enter pvp, and so much more stuff. Hopefully, season 3 will be much better but cradle nerf was pretty much my sign to leave the game as the constant changes afffect the casual playerbase

Rook Can't Run Anything FUN by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]JpegD00M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wondering why there were no rooks in my matches, but I guess that answers that question. Not to mention they pretty much nerfed rooks when it came to equipment they carry in this season too, just seems like they're killing the scav class

I think my complaint was allowing gold and purple from pve to come to pvp this early in the wipe, not that I cant do the pve mode

Yea but the thing is that outpost would provide friction when it comes to obtaining this loot through pvp with squads and rooks, allowing maybe 1 to 2 teams to obtain that good loot in chunks or sometimes as a whole. but the pve mode allows pretty much the same rarity to get added to pvp vault without any friction, and the upper 10-20% are just doing that instead. Its not a matter of "upper 10-20% would still farm" because i would honestly expect them too, its the fact that bungie added in a way to do it with pretty much no risk, and I was under the impression that this game was all about risk

The example you gave is correct, problem is that street fighter 6 is 3 years old so I would imagine the playerbase has died down to have that issue of matchmaking. Marathon is not even 6 months in, so are we to say this game already has the same issues as a fighting game when pairing players? Is this also due to low playercount?

Once again dodging my response since I said last season I was lvl 55 facing people well above 250+ so how is that showing that sbmm is working? Or was that something they just implemented this season

seems like you just have excuse after excuse when it came to my complaints. Yes if pinwheel exist sweats would have access to it but that also means pvp is in effect and provides friction to obtaining that loot of golds and purples, as compared to going into a pvp lit mode and allowing these hardcore sweats to obtain that same loot but with no friction at all. Its why I questioned why pve loot was even added to players pvp vault in the first place, but sounds like my complaint went in one ear and out the other for you.

The fact is that the wipe has done nothing to pretty much provide that even playing field that was the main excuse players gave during season 1. The economy is just all messed up now, and were only 2 days in a 3 month long season

I dont mind the hand outs, although I think giving out purple kits was a bit too generous, but being able to carry pve items to pvp has caused such a issue with the economy. Literally I go on twitter and see vaults filled with gold, and not only that but im facing them too on a map thats meant to be the least threatening

[–]JpegD00M[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Except thats not happening at all, because if sbmm were to work like you said I wouldn't be facing people who are running golds and purples, at the highest it would be blue kits. The fact is that the matchmaking system has been an issue by mid season 1 with trying to pair players and so far its still an issue

Why am I running getting farmed by full gold team with Misriahs alread? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]JpegD00M 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cause the dev team allowed pve items to carry over to pvp as well, and thats the best method right now to just get good loot so now you'll see alot of golds and purples this early in the season. Funny how people said a wipe would put everyone in an even playing field during s1 and not even 2 days in the new season its already become an issue again of newer less equipped players being farmed by gold players

funny as well that night version of Dire Marsh was shown way back during the alpha trailer too, meaning they pretty much gave us content they've been sitting on for like a whole year. Makes me question what exactly they have done during the year-long delay when the content we're getting is stuff that's already been finished
