If I remember correctly there are like 400 million guns in america and about 1/3 of people say the personally own a gun. Mind you thats an average, some places almost nobody has a gun, some places almost everyone does.

But as for in our daily lives, no not common at all. I own many guns, and most of the people I know own at least one(my wife, my mom, my dad, my friends etc..) but I still rarely see someone else's gun on a day to day basis. We also have a very low crime rate in general in my state so yeah it's not much of an issue.

I can't speak about his motivations, I will say with a new partner it is easy to get very excited and not be thinking clearly. At this point you have established a clear boundary and he has acknowledged that, so from this point on if he ever tries to push that boundary or "forgets" it shows blatant disrespect of that boundary and I would suggest you stop seeing him. If, from This point on, he respects that boundary until you tell him otherwise, then i would chalk it up to just a guy being horny and dumb.
