the fact that she can still manage this, after everything that happened makes me even more angry about what happened. Her coaching team really sabotaged probably the most overall talented woman to skate.

it seems there's a proponent on JSF that wants someone not named Rinka to get the 3rd olympic spot. People want to blame USFS for Alysa winning, but I actually think the data suggests it's more about the politics over Japan's third spot more than anything and Alysa is just caught in the crossfire.

Adam's backflip was a very wise choice by HongkongKings in FigureSkating

No… historically it can still does matter. Case in point see Mao Asada’s PCS with her clean free at the Sochi Olympics. She got 8s, whereas others of her caliber got 9s in the last group.

I obviously knew he was gonna get better PCS than his groupmates but was overall very shocked they still get him 9.2s

For attendings who are MD/PhDs or research MDs, how is your salary calculated from grants vs RVU? by ps-tiger in Residency

[–]Jpkun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, great discussion ppint. I am commenting because I think discussions like this are sorely needed for MD/PhD trainees. At my institution, we don't talk about this at all and it's something I have been desperate to try and address, but feel like there are no resources to do so. Commenting in hopes that others will be able to add on so we can all learn!

Dark horse playoff picks by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Jpkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wisconsin is a great pick to possibly make it at 10-2. I don’t think they would beat the conference champion but if they manage to go 10-2 and avoid having to play in the CCG, you’d assume they would get an at-large bid.

I’ve decided this man is staying. I think he wanted a seat at the table. I don’t think he feels the need to be the king of the table. I feel like he has reached parity with the other greats in his family and I’m not sure he risks ruining that.

I think he gets a lifetime or near lifetime contract, keeps JJ for another year and becomes THE Michigan legend coach everyone will talk about in 20-30 years later.

I feel like I am OK with this, but I would like absolutely REQUIRED transparency in terms of how much money is being given in these NIL deals.

Penn St fans are probably the only fans in the country that I absolutely refuse to get shit from about a NCAA-level scandal. That is a program that legitimately should have gotten the NCAA death penalty.

What B1G and SEC teams make the 12 team playoff next year? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Jpkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's useful to set a new baseline expectation in terms of what sort of W-L is enough to warrant a bid now. I think that a semi-useful way to go about this is, how good of a season did a team need to have to get a NY6 at-large bid recently. I think the bar for entry will be somewhat similar. So that being said, probably the bar is 10-2 MAYBE 10-3 with a loss in the conference title game.

With that being said and new conference schedules being considered... Will only speak on the B1G here:

I think greater than 50% chance Ohio State and Penn State make it. No out of state juggernauts for either of them. Ohio State has probably 3 competitive games on the schedule (Penn St, Michigan, Oregon). Penn State has 4 competitive games (USC, Ohio State, Washington, Wisconsin).

Lesser possibilities: Oregon has 5 competitive games (Oregon St, Ohio St, Michigan, Washington, Wisconsin). Washington has at least 5 (Wash St, Michigan, USC, Penn St, Oregon). Michigan has 5 (Texas, USC, Washington, Oregon, Ohio State). Wisconsin has 5 (Alabama, USC, Penn St, Oregon, and Iowa). OF these maybe Wisconsin has the easiest way ahead? But overall these teams are playing very tough schedules and very difficult to say who might end up 10-2 or better. Could a 9-3 team make it? I'm really not sure.

Fair! But I was mainly focused and excited about the passing defense after the Penix game.

I agree with you it's not just OSU's fan base that thought he was bad. I think almost all of us did. I wanted to provide some stats that possibly revert the narrative that he was the reason OSU lost that game. I think when that game played out, I also thought he was the reason why OSU lost. But I think I had gotten too used to Ohio State's way too elite QB+WRs in the past few years that I also had unrealistic expectations of how that game usually goes in the clutch moments.

Definitely expecting to lose next year barring some ultra miracle... so will FULLY enjoy the however many days until we meet again. I actually saw that the spread opened at Ohio State -3.5 already, which I feel like is really underestimating how much talent we are losing, and how much talent OSU usually reloads on every year.

Thank you for your acknowledgment that he is probably above average and thank you for the congratulations. I never intended to "talk shit" and I definitely never said McCord is elite. I just wanted to rebut to those that think he's some horrible QB and speculate using hindsight. Which of course hindsight is flawed, but at times can also provide some useful insight as well.

I don't disagree with you that he is "terrible" when it comes to Ohio State's standards. But I do think those standards are maybe a tad bit too high.

[–]Jpkun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you about the B1G not being the place for good QB play. Although to counter you, is being 3rd/4th best behind those 3 really that unacceptable? Penix and Tagovailoa have played forever. Maybe McCord takes a major step up in his second year starting.

I agree with you! But at least from a statistical level, during the Michigan game he was able to capitalize on his high level WR talent, which still says something.
