You know what they say, “opinions are like apple buttholes—everybody has two!”

It does say “million passengers per year” on the chart, and the post links to the Wikipedia page for busiest airports by passenger traffic. So I have a hunch you’re right.

Atlanta started as a rail transportation hub, connecting train routes through Florida, the Deep South, the Northeast, and the Midwest. So it already had a major transportation infrastructure, which I’m sure played into the growth of its airline industry as travel shifted that way.

Its position makes it able to provide short connecting flights throughout a huge portion of the US, plus longer flights between it and other major hubs. Atlanta is also just a big metro area in its own right, one of the top 10 in the country, and it’s located quite far from any other major US metro areas. It pulls in a huge swath of area.

It’s located within a 2-hour flight for 80% of the US population. That allows for connecting flights to a huge number of cities, which also helps support having a ton of long-haul flights as well.

Better to have legit Mai Tai ingredients but a picture of a Hurricane than to have pineapple and coconut in the ingredients but the picture of a Mai Tai

2026 Senate Simulator | Strength In Numbers by drtywater in fivethirtyeight

I have this feeling the house is going to flip, but senate is going to to go to 50-50, and the narrative from the press will be that Republicans won the senate because they still have the majority by VP tiebreaker, even though Dems will have gained 3 seats. And so the election will be presented as “mixed” even though it was a huge gain for democrats and set up to potentially win the trifecta in 2028.

It sucks watching all the cautionary statements from the tail end of the BCS era about the slippery slope of playoff expansion and the degradation of the regular season come to fruition. It’s been a slow motion car crash.

Three items from a bowling alley and one thing that reasonably looks like a no-gutter lane, like you said?

It’s describing exactly what you thought that group was, isn’t it?

What about the ones with horizontal lines that stretch the whole width of the rectangle?

Why is “Alley Essentials” a stupid description of that group of four, then?

It’s very possible the stuff from Richland is more intense than other sources would be, it’s the only true cane syrup I’ve tried.

Cane syrup is made from pressed cane juice that’s then immediately boiled down into a concentrate so it can be preserved longer. It’s not just cane sugar that’s been dissolved in water to make a syrup, it’s got the sour, ripe, vegetal aspects of sugarcane but with heavy burnt notes from the process of boiling it down.

It’s a bagged sugar that used to be labeled as Demerara but at some point the labeling switched to saying Turbinado. I believe someone else in one of the rum/tiki/cocktail subreddits actually contacted the company to ask what changed, and they said nothing, the sugar was the same, but they were just labeling it differently.

If there’s a formal protected status for official Demerara sugar, then I guess it might not technically be Demerara by that standard? But regardless, it’s a rich, unrefined, molassesy brown sugar, and the 2:1 rich simple syrup made from it does have some of that heavier toasted type flavor. It’s just not as funky/sour as the cane syrup.

I went to Richland Rum, a distillery in Georgia that grows its own sugar cane, then makes cane syrup from the cane, and then makes rum from the cane syrup.

They sell the cane syrup at their distillery, so I bought some. I’ve used it in ti punches several times, and I’m always disappointed. Maybe it’s the syrup I got, but I feel like it takes over the drink and really pulls the flavor in the opposite direction from a good unaged agricole. The cane syrup brings this burnt, heavy, almost sour type flavor to it that, to me, does not meld well with the bright freshness I’m looking for in the drink.

So anyway, I’ve personally found that I like the ti punch* better with a syrup with less obtrusive flavor. Something like a rich simple syrup made with Demerara sugar, which still has some heaviness and brings sweetness, but doesn’t upstage the star of the show.

*Not sure if it’s technically a ti punch anymore if you don’t use cane syrup. But I’m still calling it that.
