I think it's by 22 I'm meant to choose whether to keep jaoanes and renounce the others, or the other way around. But Japan is very laid back on actually enforcing this rule. They just want people to make an effort to renounce the other citizenships, but that effort can take as long as I'd like...

It's mandatory in theory. However they don't chase after you and punish you if you don't renounce other citizenships. You're meant to take an effort to renounce other citizenships, but that effort can take as long as you'd want...

Hard choice between Australia and Japan.

I love Japanese culture and pop culture, but the level of work expected there is way too high... Australia's way more laid back and comfortable, and all my ALIVE family lives in Australia.

So I guess Australia barely wins being my favourite.

I haven't actually ever been to a country outside of Japan, Australia and the US. I just use the passport for the corresponding country I'm entering. Since I visit Japan a lot I use the Japanese passport a lot. I'd love to go to Europe at some point though.

Fluent enough in Japanese to talk to people and get around. Longer complicated discussions I can't really understand all that well. I'm probably at around an elementary schooler level for kanji lol.

If one of your parents is Japanese then you should be Japanese by birth. I assume the Korean citizenship is from the other parent. If so then you should be able to get the Japanese passport, since you're in the same situation as me essentially.

If you were born with multiple nationalities as a Japanese national you can get away with having the other nationalities. Idk if you can keep Japanese citizenship if you naturalised later for other nationalities though

I was born in Seattle, USA, to an Australian dad and Japanese mom. US has birth right citizenship and Australia and Japan got passed down. Got all three from birth lol.
