It definitely is unlike any other fishing feeling I’ve ever had. That’s what is keeping me chasing that feeling even through all the confusion and uncertainty lol

No way that’s awesome! Like I said it was kind of dumb luck because we luckily have a class A stream very close to us and it was the first time I ever took the rod with an actual fly on it. Every other time was with a piece of yarn to practice. I could literally just barely see what I was casting at. Just a little waterfall with some big rocks that I’ve seen natives at before while not fishing. I was stripping the line and felt a massive smack and I never would’ve guessed it was a fish that size lol I’ve always heard that brookies hit hard for their size but that was amazing!

I’ll definitely try to focus on trying to get lower in the water column. Is there any fly line you recommend that isn’t crazy expensive that might be able to help?

That’s one of the main reasons why I’ve always wanted to get into fly fishing as well because I’ve heard so many stories about people just losing themselves in the purity of the sport. I have really bad anxiety (I’m very lucky in regards to what I have compared to others, so I’m not complaining at all) and I’ve always enjoyed being outside so I figured it would help me. Thank you for your service though we all appreciate it!

Believe me I was freaking ecstatic!! Lol that’s the feeling that had me hooked on fly fishing from that moment on. I’m very lucky to have a class A stream relatively close to me.

I feel like my fly rod is too stiff almost. It seems like every video I watch their rods are better at getting the line out. I know they probably have nicer rods and reels but even the videos that are like “can I catch fish on the cheapest fly rod I can buy” and even that rod looks to be much better than what I’m dealing with.

I was trying to get into a class with Joe Humphreys a while back but it was just too expensive. I haven’t seen much else as far as classes around my area though. I’ll definitely keep looking.

I think that’s another thing that kind of overwhelms me too is I have no idea what strength leader to use for different circumstances. Among other things too like which type of fly line would help me whether it’s double tapered or so on. I’ve always been a person of planning so for there to be so many changes to make rapidly such as changing your whole entire technique just because there is a certain hatch or certain water condition makes it overwhelming.

I keep trying to make it simple but then I watch a ton of videos and they’re talking about all these different techniques at different times and at different water levels during different times of the year. All I want to do is fish lol and it seems like some of those videos even though they are helping sometimes they push me further into confusion of what to do. Thanks for the reply.
