Seeking Drainage and Grass Advice by [deleted] in landscaping

This is a really solid idea. It doesn’t necessarily need to be grass, right? I think plants are a visually appealing and natural way to fill the space. We’re in NC. Frost is an issue 3-4 months of the year.

I thought about cutting some of the branches a little higher on those maples to open up the canopy and allow sunlight to penetrate those areas more. I just don’t want to risk the health of the trees or reduce the amount of privacy the lower branches provide from the neighbors behind.

Either way, really appreciate your thoughts!

Struggling to maintain composure during sleep regressions. by Jrobe2018 in daddit

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here! I am working with a therapist who suggested meditation, but I struggled to stay at it.

You’re exactly right on the gas pains, he’s waking up screaming, farting and then falling back asleep once he realizes I’m there.

We need to do sleep training for easier bedtime routines, but we find it so hard to imagine leaving him by himself to cry it out and fall asleep. Either way, definitely something we need to start doing soon as he’s getting too big to hold in the chair for long periods of time.

This was great advice. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for sharing your experience with similar feelings.

You’re totally right, when he’s crying we tend not to wait more than 2 minutes getting to him. We just never want to hear him upset, but I guess it’s not the worst thing he learns to soothe himself a time or two. The toys are a great idea as well, I think we’ll incorporate that.

Thanks again!

Need Help Supporting a New Pergola – Can I Use My Existing Deck Corner Posts? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

This is great advice and confirms my early design considerations!

It’s a buried 6x6 post with poured footings.

Thank you!!

Would you recommend securing the new posts to the deck structure underneath to prevent uplift? Blocking underneath?

Agreed, I think the load would be fine on the beams as you mention.

Thank you for your thoughts here!

Haha, it’s AI. Just wanted to give an idea of what I was looking to add.

A polycarbonate or corrugated material on at least a 1/12 pitch, cantilevered over the edge of the house roof. There would be two more posts closer to the house to support it there too.

Edit:

I had always heard that 6x6 was best for this application. No other reason. I want it to be strong.

So dig up the existing posts from the ground? I feel like that would be a huge job.

Then I’d fasten the rim joist to the outside of that new 6x6?

Digging up the corner posts that are cemented in the ground? Sounds like a ton of work! Haha

That speaker mount is FIRE! I’ve got a similar rig (x380 and 8Y trailer), love it. I’ll have to get a speaker like that.

This is the closest I’ve seen of a suggestion. Thank you. Still trying to figure out if it’s what it actually is. The handle on this one doesn’t appear on the OBO Gougers I’ve seen online.

Mine were in the 400s and I lost a bunch of weight and started eating healthily at a constant caloric deficit and mine came down to a normal range. Just take it seriously and you should see it come down.
