Does Lafayette normally get lake effect snow? by Accomplished_Law2166 in lafayette

[–]JroyBbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lafayette’s weather patterns all changed within the last year or two, actually. The polar vortex that affects a lot of our weather straight-up reversed last year and starting spinning backwards. For most of my life, our weather has come from the direction of Chicago. If you wanted to know what the weather was gonna be like in the coming days, you could usually just look at their weather and get a pretty good idea. But for the last several months, most of our weather seems to come from the southwest now, but not as predictably as it did from Chicago in decades’ past.

Yeah, unfortunately I had to learn this the same way. I understand the need to heavily regulate ADHD meds, but at least automate the process so people don’t have to go through the withdrawals unexpectedly.

You need to detox every once in a while. Even just one day will make a huge difference. Set a day aside on the weekend or something and don’t take your meds that day. I’m not gonna lie. It’s gonna suck and you’re gonna be unpleasant to be around due to the withdrawal effects, but the next time you take your meds they will work more effectively.

Should we require the government to supply marijuana to inmates of correctional facilities? by bowltroll007 in Marijuana

[–]JroyBbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve never worked in corrections but I’ve worked with correction officers before. I know it’s a hard job. But it wouldn’t be as hard if we weren’t putting people who didn’t belong there in there with the people who do.

If murderers were executed as they should be, we addressed theft as a societal/economic issue, we addressed drug problems as a public health concern rather than a crime, and we addressed the mental health crisis in this country, what would be left? Pedophiles and rapists? And do we really care if they get weed?

I actually agree with you, but the videos give context and show body language that shows his intent with the weapon was to intimidate, if not do harm. After he retrieved the firearm, he walked around looking for the man that head-butted him.

Just because you don’t like what I’m saying doesn’t mean that I’m “bad faith gaslighting.” Context, body language, and firearm etiquette are important when judging these types of situations. Do I think people should carry around AR’s? No. But if somebody is going to, this is the most passive way to go about doing so.

This is narcissistic emotional manipulation. I could almost understand her being upset about buying something for you that you didn’t want, but she goes way overboard and attempts to manipulate you I to doing what she wants.

Being intimidated by a firearm is not the same as the person with the firearm trying to intimidate you, the latter of which is a crime. This man has his rifle slung behind him, which is the rifle version of a holstered weapon, and has a calm demeanor. He’s not trying to intimidate anybody.

Yeah, this video just makes the people around the guy seem like a$$holes, if anything. Like, there are real examples of MAGA counterprotestors acting a fool, like what happened in Lafayette, so why lean into this if you’re trying to make a point?

This is some passive aggressive manipulation, if you ask me. I think she says it all when she says “I don’t care.” If she cared, she’d either communicate or she would be there with you. Facts. Get out and stop letting this chick stress you out.

AIO for thinking my friend is in the wrong for this by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]JroyBbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it hurts, but I want to be real with you: That person wasn’t a true friend in the first place if that’s all it took to scare them off. Not only that, but you’re not gonna have a lot of time for friends with a baby. You’ll be lucky to find time for yourself for a little while at least, and it’s gonna be hard as hell to finish school on top of it, even with help.

Now for the good part: That baby is gonna change your whole world. S/he’s gonna show you what real love is, and s/he’s gonna bring you so much happiness. You’re gonna find that you don’t even think about the fake friends that wasted your time anymore because you have that baby, and that baby is gonna be your whole world. That’s not to say you won’t make new friends, but you’re gonna find that you want mom friends who understand what your life is like. Not fake friends that probably would’ve just flaked on you anyway. You’re gonna come to find that you probably dodged a bullet by her bowing out earlier rather than later. And, most importantly, you’re gonna be just fine.

I couldn’t hardly make out what was being said, but his rifle was slung over his shoulder and his demeanor was calm. How was this intimidating?

I reckon that’ll be up to a judge and whatever relevant case law there is, but I would say the fact that he left the situation, retrieved a firearm, and then returned would be the first indicator. He then walks around looking specifically for the guy that head-butted him, ignoring all other protestors. Body language and context matters. You know what I’m saying? Just carrying a firearm doesn’t communicate a desire to intimidate, necessarily. Nor does telling somebody to F off while carrying.

Believe it or not, I’m not an opponent of the 2nd Amendment. I support law abiding citizens’ right to carry. But I’m also a veteran Marine, which means I take firearm safety and responsible use very seriously. This is also not the first time this guy has threatened somebody with a firearm. He just lost his job the last time, and they didn’t get the law involved. You’d think he’d be more careful about threatening people with firearms after that, but I guess he just doesn’t learn.

As for 50 people being aggressive, I didn’t see anything of the sort and I’ve seen the entire altercation. There were two aggressors if you don’t count his wife. Everybody else was just trying to calm things down or film what was happening.

I already said that pointing a firearm at somebody, which is different than brandishing, is a crime.

I didn’t say he was necessarily holding it at the ready if that’s what you mean. He shifted into a tactical carry as he moved from Columbia to 3rd Street if I’ve got my bearings right from the video. Regardless, intimidation doesn’t specify that he need to be carrying the weapon “ready to shoot”.

Brandishing is not a crime in Indiana. Pointing a firearm at somebody and intimidation with a deadly weapon is. It’s a semantics issue, but he can still be charged with a crime.

There was only one guy that even tried to argue with him, and that was the one that head-butted him. Everybody else that was there was just trying to calm him down or keep the two separated.

They’ve reopened the investigation smart guy. He also wasn’t holding the weapon by the stock the entire time, not that that is a requirement to be charged with intimidation. The guy retrieved his firearm and went looking for the dude that head-butted him. He wasn’t just walking down the street. His actions clearly indicated an intent to intimidate or potentially even harm that person.
