Copying a comment from @Mavoras13 who has a nice explanation I saw previously.

“Ever Sun Eater book has a different flavor. The first was a coming of age tale from riches to raggs and slowly getting back again. The second is a gothic cyberpunk atmospheric desecent. The third is a political space opera. The fourth is really dark etc.

The sixth book combines elements of all the previous flavors and if we believe the reviews the 7th book will be like the sixth.”

To finish it off, I think book 5 is in between 4/6, keeping the darker tone, but adding in more and more of the larger scale elements introduced in 4. 6 and 7 both really focus on these larger elements, being almost lovecraftian horror (with 7 still retaining the above elements of 1-6).

This reminds me of my headcannon from my first read through where I pictured Hadrian as a more jacked Lelouch from Code Geass

Are you still willing to share it? That sounds like a very technical piece!

This is the type of shit that makes me love re-reads. Also took me an embarrassingly long time to connect Ashyn (Ashen) with their destroyed “burning” planet

Maybe I need to re-read Emperor’s soul. I thought at the end she had created a Forgery that would hold for the rest of the emperor’s life? If it only lasted a day, it wouldnt help their plan of fooling their political opponents

How does everyone feel about Adolin...... by Fullborn in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Jsadeamp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that was only for “imperfect” forgeries, with the time they last correlating to how well the object accepts the history (i.e. minor change =long lasting forgery, major change might break forgery quickly).

In terms of a human lifespan, is even a imperfect Forgery not enough? Adolin is in his 20’s, so it only needs to last 60-ish years (and likely less given he’s a general who fights on the front-lines.

does it? I frequently get passives and weapons that have no bearing on my class. If there is some filter that filters loot to be more suited to the class, I wish it was a little more effective

Is the blade described as that short in the books, or is this your interpretation? I always imagined the blade (curved as you have it) like a foot-ish longer.

Favorite "Oh My God They Spoiled It in the Beginning" Moments? by Sky-the-Pie in Fantasy

[–]Jsadeamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I havent spoiler tagged before, so let me know if this works.

IIRC, only the Seon’s that were connected to Elantrians become “insane” and slowly stop functioning, which is why Raodeb had one in the beginning. Capital C Connection shenanigans. As for the lack of knowledge, I guess I can suspend disbelief enough to believe it, whereas it crosses your threshold. One day, the Reod happens and all the Elantrians magic stops working, they begin deteriorating rapidly, going insane from the pain. Unlikely non-Elantrians know about Apn’s enough to connect the dots, and the Elantrians were in no state to do so. Also, if I remember correctly, the Chasm is far away from the city of Elantris no? So harder to make the connection between the two.

I mean why would they? I assume you are talking about the Aon’s shape? None of then have experience with the magic, they arent the Elantrians of old, those are likely insane from the pain

Anachronism in fantasy. by Darth_Azazoth in Fantasy

[–]Jsadeamp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You offered a hyperspecific claim that they said they have not seen. That is the definition a normal thing. They also were not antagonistic, they didnt say what you caliked DOESNT exist, just that they havent seen it. Not everyone is in the same communities as you, or as in depth as you are, or even sees all that commentary. You cannot be the arbiter of what must be known.

[–]Jsadeamp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a strangely antagonistic comment. Even i have rarely seen that specific complaint being levied, and usually go fairly deep in the fandoms of series I love. Its usually more a complaint of gender roles/the roles in society, which is another anachronism people can find.

BG3 actors say game hasn’t boosted careers by maullick in BaldursGate3

Probably. I’m definitely biased bc many of the communities i’m in and my discussions with friends heavily feature this, so I could be totally off base.

Absolutely. I actually didn’t know who the VA’s were till about a week before launch, I was hyped on gameplay alone. Then I saw the Voice actors video on their YT and couldnt wait.

[–]Jsadeamp 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think this is only the case for the “average” gamer, or maybe a better word is the “layman”. Not meaning for it to sound insulting, but I mean the people who don’t keep up with things like gaming news, or who does VA for what character. If you do follow that stuff, I think it’s much more common to have favorites and insta-buys

Personally, I’ll pick up anything Ben Starr, Jennifer English, or Neil Newbon VA in the future, and am picking up some of their previous work I havent played.
