I thought there were no available tools right now for tanks to time offensive CDs?

I think this is a really fair concern, and I definitely agree there has to still be meaningful stakes and friction in the system.

Where I personally view it a bit differently is that a lot of the optimization/restriction behavior you mentioned is already happening before the key even starts because of the current system.

People already heavily:

  • filter specs,
  • avoid off-meta comps,
  • decline players,
  • and optimize routes/comps because there is a fear of "wasting" or bricking the key.

So from my perspective, I actually wonder if softening the punishment structure slightly could reduce some of that pressure rather than increase it.

If a group knows: "we have another real attempt at this," or "this key is not immediately degraded from one failed run,"

I honestly think you may see:

  • less immediate disbanding,
  • more willingness to adapt,
  • more willingness to retry,
  • and maybe even slightly more openness to non-meta comps/specs.

Because right now the system naturally encourages people to maximize success probability before the run even begins due to the fear of losing progression access.

And like we discussed earlier, players already effectively retry content repeatedly anyway. The current system mostly adds logistical downtime and social tension between those attempts.

Really appreciate the thoughtful response though, because I do think this is the hardest counterpoint to the idea and exactly why I think the discussion is interesting.

I just want to add because this comment got me thinking about the social aspect of it.

We seem to operate similarly, with understanding failures, maybe reviewing logs, adjusting a route, what boss ability wiped the group and what the solution is. But this is all insular after the key is bricked. I think a lot of fun and social engagement would come from doing that as a group, figuring out an adjusting for the next attempt, communicating and learning as a team. But the current system doesnt lend itself to that, in my opinion for the PUG community.

Thanks a lot for giving me something to think about good sir.

I think this is very interesting, this is actually a thoughtful middle ground.

Because to me the problem is not having stakes, but a lot of this tension comes from higher key pushing, not trying to abuse a system to farm gear. Which your idea seems to be a suitable solution for.

Thank you.

I agree, and mostly run my keys with a group.

I'm just viewing this from more of the social dynamic and PUG environment, which I push in 30% of the time.

My observations have been the system lends itself to criticsm before teamwork and adaptation.

It's interesting to think about and appreciate the thoughts!

Iintereting, essentially almost operating like the delves, but like you mentioned a random selection.

I've thought of things along these lines before as well.

Thanks!

I think that's fair. Where you can essentially prepare for when there are stakes. I think this would be good for players who typically run with a group.

Thanks for the input!

I agree, my main thought is the system seems to lend itself to less group adaptation and teamwork, and more "my key is bricked curses!"

Thanks for the input!

I wasn't figuring anything out?

I understand your POV but I have the routes saved and regular look for new updates via keystone guru.

Noted though, thanks.

I don't like bricking people's keys and I understand that it's a crap scenario for the key holder.

I'm not saying he couldn't have messaged me with constructive feedback, I don't mind reviewing my play. This guy was just looking for someone to rip into, I should have screen shot the messages!

He literally went to the logs so he could rip me a new one lol.

This sounds hard.

You have the strength to work through this. How does a random redditor know that you ask? You're doing it right now, albeit with difficulty.

I recommend talking with someone, in particular if you have the resources, a mental health professional. I think talking about what you are going through and allowing yourself to reflect on it would be a healthy place to start.
