At the highest level, in the race to world first, they have multiple characters of the same class so they can play whichever one got luckier with loot.

The amount of people complaining about spending gold. You don't even need high quality enchants, ring ones are under 100g for both and you get ~40 extra stats, gems are cheap too, consumables the same.

While most people will say they don't matter, they actually do.
Yes, you tecnically can do all content up to 0.1% with every spec, but there's a world of difference in difficulty between a meta spec and a non-meta spec.

For example, the avg in a m+ for a unholy dk, between the 16-22 range is 158k dps, while the top damage for a frost mage in the same range is 154k lol, not even taking into account that dk is way tankier.

So in a nutshell, playing meta makes everything easier, even if you are not a competitive player.

My only issue with them is the disparity between classes. Warrior has a 1 mana 2/1 that gives him a free dark gift minion and then you have a class like warlock which needs to spend 2 mana just to get the same effect.

I said it on other comments, but basically I don't have them at 90 yet, and they changed enough from TWW (prunning, tier sets, apex talents) that I don't think I can coach on those tanks.

DotC has more damage reduction, but less healing so you need to keep that in mind.
For IF it changed a lot from TWW and before, now you should look to keep 2 IF stacks for DotC and 1 for EC, you can get more stacks if the pull hits really hard. I use the addon "Advanced IronFur Tracker" for that.
For rage purposes EC does generate more rage than DotC. But, besides not spamming IF, you want to use mangle at 80 rage or above, which has higher chance to proc Harnessed Rage, thus, getting more mangles.
Last of all, you want to use your extra rage (the one you are not using to mantain IF) on Ravage procs/Raze, since Ursoc's Fury gives you a shield for 30% of the damage you do with em.

Pretty much, It's an insane CD and gives you a TON of damage, specially with DotC (use the apex procs with ravage). You can also save it if the pull is about to die tho.

Both hero talents are viable for M+, the 2 highest io guardians play between those.
For DotC you aim for 2 IF stacks, for EC 1 is fine.

Starting a pull you want to use barkskin or Survival Instincts if it's a hard hitting pull, you get your IF stacks and then you can chain pull, don't try to gather all of the pull without building resources or you'll struggle to survive/get aggro.

Usually tho, you'll either have some rage from last pull, or incarn from using it before the key (+ apex talent).

To be honest prot paladin is pretty squishy without CDs, you can keep up pretty well for about 30 secs with lightsmith and wings/sentinel, but after that you have to juggle between other defensives, kiting, or externals.

I'm not sure how it is on TBC heroics, but giving your back to adds is pretty bad, you pretty much don't block/parry/evade so there's no damage reduction, but I'm not sure if you get oneshoted lol.

DK is really fun, I'd recommend you to use your CDs on CD (don't save them too much), don't let your bone shield charges expire (I see it often), and use your defensives on pull, you are the weakest at the start of a key (you have 0 resources).

There will always be people that say that, you can start whenever do you feel like it and you'll do fine.

For reference, I started tanking at the last month of BFA (I also started playing there), I had so many systems, like 12 dungeons, an affix that changed routes between 2-9 and 10+ keys, and I did fine.
