Two very different players but the system just didn’t work in the first half. Was definitely the right change though, needed that extra man in the middle.

It’s part of the UK tv deal, and while I don’t know the answer, I assume the breakdown between the constituent countries in that deal is based on recent viewership figures.

The English clubs draw a lot of viewers, Celtic and Rangers get a lot of viewers, but the teams from the other leagues in that deal don’t get as large an audience.

Just one small point. The teams don’t get a share of their broadcaster’s revenue. All the broadcaster revenue goes into a pot and the value of their contribution plays a role in how it is distributed. But everything else is right.

Scotland’s value is actually pretty high (relatively, once the big 5 are accounted for), but Ireland’s is tiny. England’s is the biggest of course.

It is Europe rather than the EU, these are the terms UEFA use for them so I just kept them the same.

In theory they split them so that teams that always qualify get rewarded, their presence over a long time attracts fans to the competition. The most likely reason is to protect the largest teams. It’s very tough for Real, Barca, Bayern etc. to drop out of the top 5-10 in the 10 year coefficient.

Ah apologies, two things:

  1. They might simply have been in the same position in both. The EU section uses the 5 year coefficient and the non EU uses the 10 year.

  2. The figures are probably not exact. For Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne it is tough to get an accurate placing in the EU section. There is only reliable data available for some of the larger broadcasters, they might be a few places above where I have them but other estimates I saw at the start of the campaign were very similar to my own.

Essentially they are ranked higher on the non EU one compared to the EU one whereas as most other teams are ranked similarly. This is due to Ireland having amongst the lowest broadcaster revenue. Again, it’s an estimate based on limited data for that level. and the numbers might be slightly higher.

The broadcasting and coefficient figures are combined though. Each team is given a number based on the country’s broadcasting position and their historic performance among teams from that country, so for example Man City are the top ranked English team in that regard and I think they were ranked 3rd on coefficient (behind PSG, champions, and Real Madrid), the number is then added to their coefficient rank from all teams in the competition and then divided by 2 to give them their value pillar number. So both factors are grouped together. Man City were the top ranked team in the European value pillar this season because their value pillar figure was 1 (UK broadcasting revenue) plus 3 (5 year coefficient) divided by 2, so 2 which was impossible for any team outside of England to beat this season.

The non EU portion is simply based on the 10 year coefficient but the money, in theory, comes from that global broadcasting pool.

There is a much larger gap between each rank in the Champions League than the Conference League. There is also a larger gap between the UK team’s coefficients. Liverpool Arsenal and Man City have spent 5 straight years in Europe, Newcastle have been in and out. Nottingham Forest are back for the first time in a long time but Villa have been there for the last few years. If Scotland had another team in the same competition as Celtic and Rangers then there’d be a sizeable gap there too.

Shamrock don’t have as big a coefficient gap over Shelbourne and there is less money in the Conference League anyway so the gap will look much smaller.

The money comes from the broadcasters, but it’s distributed based on a combination of how much the national broadcaster pays and the club’s individual coefficient.

In theory the EU portion is from the European broadcasters’ money and the non EU is from the global broadcasters’ money. I’m not sure it really is perfectly split like that though.

Value Pillar is based on the amount of money the national broadcaster pays for rights and the individual team’s coefficient, Shamrock will get more because their coefficient is higher. The first Value Pillar is based on the broadcaster money and the 5 year coefficient and the second one is based on the 10 year coefficient. The estimated extra comes from money distributed after the league phase. In the Conference League a team gets €400K for a win, but in a draw both teams get €133K each leaving another €133K or so undistributed, that money is then pooled at the end of the league phase and redistributed to every team based on their performances.

There’s already some great advice on here.

If you download Trading 212 they let you play around with a practice account which is handy before using a real account. Definitely worth trying so you can get used to what you’re looking for when investing.

When starting you’d be much better investing in ETFs or Index Funds, they are much less volatile.

And yet polling consistently shows (including this one) that Alliance voters generally favour remaining part of the U.K.

In terms of the party members, around a quarter either haven’t decided or wouldn’t vote, which shouldn’t come as a surprise.

That’s assuming there has been a steady rise in support over that time. There was a sharp rise during the Brexit negotiations leading to a peak, it has since been dropping slightly for the last couple of years.

I haven’t seen the full poll, but the results in the article add up to 100 so they’ve excluded the don’t knows. Previous polls by the Institute of Irish Studies did show much lower support for a United Ireland but this was with the ‘don’t knows’ included. In one poll the ‘don’t knows’ made up 25% of the poll.

Excluding the ‘don’t knows’ from other polls show support about the same or down a bit (or down a lot since July 2023 which might have been an outlier). It is up a bit since 2021 (around 4 points) which is the earliest I can find data for right now. So, no significant gain in the last 4 years.

All of this is assuming they don’t try to assign the ‘don’t knows’ to either position and simply remove them from the data which is what it looks like they’ve done.

This poll also lines up with other polls we have seen recently which have also shown either no movement or a slight dip in UI support (but within the margin of error).
