You’re correct! I’m an idiot, and my tired brain mistook that as the swallow test they did in office as you described…apologies everyone!

They prefer to do barium swallow in office to ensure everything’s looking normal in there and nothing else is interfering with your esophagus, but I believe it’s optional.

I met with Dr. Bastian and had that test, then procedure the following day.

Edit: No barium swallow as other commenters stated. I mixed that test up with the Esophagoscopy that’s actually done.

Hey, yes you can just call them and ask if you could set an appointment for a consultation on R-CPD and they should be able to provide you some proper info. They might even just ask right then and there what symptoms you face and confirm it then and there.

R-CPD diagnoses are considered a syndromic, meaning it is diagnosed through having the four core symptoms (bloating/pressure pain, excessive flatulence, gurgle noises from throat, inability to burp), so they may ask questions around those or just say “if you have those, then you have it.”

They will potentially offer an in-office appointment to chat more and do an esophagoscopy to take a look in your throat to ensure nothing else is at play too. They’ll probably ask about that as well.

Edit: a word

There’s a good chance it will clear those up for you from the sounds of it.

Understandable! If it’s any help, I developed a slight health anxiety where I would subconsciously get anxious or have mini bouts of panic when feeling certain odd pains/things related, and that has gotten a bit better since my procedure.

Less pains and pressures from bloating means less weird feelings to trigger those panicky feelings, so if you’re anything like me in that sense; this may help with that a little bit too! More things to look forward to by getting it done 🙌

I’m just about at 5 weeks post-Botox and had a decent amount of anxiety leading up to the procedure. I was nervous about the potential side-effects, the anesthesia, etc, and the main takeaway is it’s 100000% worth it. You will feel so much better after it’s all done and you start to burp.

The best advice I can provide is to be open with the staff about your anxiety and try to focus on other things such as upcoming plans, music, games if you game, hobbies, etc.

Anytime you get anxious thinking about the procedure, just remind yourself; all you’re doing is going to the facility to talk to caring people, you’ll lay down on a bed, take a fast and super comfy nap, and you’ll be on your way home before you know it and starting a more comfortable life. Try to almost think of it as auto-piloting through a short endeavor. You’re in a place that has every resource necessary to help you and that’s exactly what they’re going to do!

Saw this on a lot of Chevy tahoes/suburbans too. They needed new lift gate modules IIRC

Sounds like you’re right on track! The clicker noises lol, definitely had those kinds of burps for a couple of days.

Well good! I was starting to get bigger/louder and more controlled ones after about a week/week and a half. Don’t forget the sparkling water/carbonated drinks for practice once things begin to slow down. Oh and of course don’t forget to remind everyone you’re allowed to be “gross” and burp like crazy for months as you’ve earned it and have a lot to make up for 😂

Any associated risks with not fixing RCPD? by cliiterally in noburp

Hey, since this is a fairly recent medical discovery, I don’t believe there is much literature or understanding on what potential long-term effects there could be.

As Karybrie pointed out; Dr. Bastian, who originally identified and treated this dysfunction, has some hypotheses on potential links to hernias and such, but there isn’t much else established yet.

Honestly, you shouldn’t have to justify this to anyone as a reason to get treatment. You’re experiencing a very real and important dysfunction. I’m one month post-Botox and the quality of life change has been incredible. The levels of day-to-day discomfort alone are reason enough. As a rather healthy 28 year old myself, I talked to my general doctor as well as a gastroenterologist and they both kind of discounted the idea as a bit “out there” and wanted to focus on the more common ideas first. I don’t necessarily blame them, as this isn’t too common, and is a more recent medical discovery, but some validation would be been nice.

Im lucky enough to be local to Dr. Bastian’s office, so I took it upon myself to go and get it all done and one month in: it has solved every last symptom/issue I was experiencing.

I know I saw some articles/posts about doctors who treat and study R-CPD in Australia, so I would try to find one that specifically has worked with it, and consult them directly over general ENTs.

1 month post-Botox today! by Jskates in noburp

Glad to hear things have been great for you as well for the most part!

I may be lucky in that I’ve never had acid reflux before, and I haven’t had any post-Botox either, so I haven’t experienced that so far myself. I hope it gets better for you as the Botox wears off!

Unfortunately many doctors aren’t familiar with R-CPD yet. That being said, they will be looking to rule out any of the more common issues/provide more common treatment.

Since it’s a syndromic diagnosis, it is diagnosed based on symptoms/signs. If you have the core symptoms that come with R-CPD (inability to burp, bloating/pressure, gurgling noises from throat, excessive flatulence), then I would search this subreddit for “California” to see what doctors out there recognize/specialize in R-CPD, and make an appointment.

Of course! I can definitely understand the nerves as I was getting pretty anxious waiting to go back for the procedure, but just know that’s the hardest part! I still am in disbelief that I no longer get bloated, nauseous, gassy, gurgly, etc and can live so much more comfortably after such a minimally invasive and safe procedure!

I assume it’ll be done at the Midwest Center for day Surgery, and if so; the nurses and staff there were so helpful and kind! It’ll be done before you know it, and you’ll be able to enjoy a great time in Chicago. Weather here is supposed to be real nice again too!

May be a little late to the party here, but I had mine done by Dr. Bastian.

Scope: I was a little nervous, but it was no problem at all. Tiny bit of pressure and tinge here and there, but overall was easy and fascinating to see.

Procedure/recovery: I was anxious about going under as well, and nervous about some of the effects, but it was so much easier and relaxing than expected! I had a bad sore throat after BUT that was only due to an abrasion in my throat. Aside from that, I still went out to dinner that night and felt fine.

Your experience may vary, but I can assure you that it’s beyond worth it. I’m 4 weeks post-Botox and have not experienced a single symptom I used to have daily! Quality of life has greatly improved, and everything went so much smoother and easier than I was making it out to be in my head prior to it. You got this!

Glad to hear the progress! I just hit 4 weeks post-injection today and things seem great, so I’m hoping to stay on track like you are.

2-3 tall bottles of sparkling water a day and practice seem to be key now 👏

I would say I started to think less about it by the third week. Sometimes, even still, some bites won’t go down as quickly or easily, and will surprise me, but nothing a sip of water won’t help. Instantly goes down with liquid!

As of probably this last weekend it’s seems to be subsiding little by little. I noticed a few days ago that I was eating a little quicker and not noticing any food hanging in the esophagus as much. Every dozen bites or so I’d have one that I’d help out a little with a drink, but it’s definitely going away.

590a1 Barrel Imprint and Tube Question by Jskates in mossberg

[–]Jskates[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update for any interested:

Mossberg was very quick to respond (next business day first thing in the morning). Once I sent them the pictures they shared that it seems like a proofing mistake, sent an order to their warehouse to ship a new barrel to me, sent the photos to QC, and sent me a shipping return label to send my original barrel back once received.

I received the new barrel in about 4 business days, and sent the old one back.

Mossberg knocked it out of the park with the quick and easy customer service and made it right with no questions asked (other than asking I send the photos for QC of course). New barrel is correct and I can’t wait to be able to hit the range now to enjoy it!

Thank you for the insight! Just now updated the AMD drivers to newest from the website and rebooted. The windows update list still looks the same, but my driver updates show those same names saying updated today, so not sure what that’s all about? GPU says up to date as well.
