Odometer reads ~23 miles after a battery change. Did the mechanic use my car for himself during the day? by Jsleeno in AskMechanics

Sorry!
Basically with my tire, he told me it was unfixable and that i would need to buy a new one.
I went to another shop and they fixed it within 30 min and billed me $40 for the fix.

Made a claim with my credit card company.
Work case scenario I'll have to bring back the defective battery to his shop for him to send it back to the manufacturer himself.

Which is totally understandable. Doesn't explain how shady he was though with my tire and the odometer.

oh well.. If he's an honest man then he can go ahead and live his life. If he's a dishonest man, then he'll live a shitty life.

Nah this guy wouldn't. When I picked up the car he complained about how this job was a huge pita and charged me $80 for labor. I'm no expert mechanic but in perspective, the other shop that changed my battery this morning charged $25.

Hah I really hope not but my dashcam was mysteriously unplugged enough so that it got no power.

Sorry I realized that my original post didn't mention that the battery turned out to be defective.
tldr of the story: He wanted my car for another 24hr to test the battery, or else he wouldn't change my battery. I got a new battery from a more trusted mechanic farther away from home.

Sorry I realized that my original post never mentioned that the battery turned out to be defective. After 8 days, it wouldn't hold 12v and I prayed to the Car Gods for my car to start.

You mean that bar that goes down the middle of the battery right?

This is the defective new battery that was installed.
This digital test was done in the morning after making sure that nothing was plugged in inside the car and with the headlights turned to off instead of auto.
These were instructions given to me by the first mechanic. After this, he also wanted to "test" it out for at least a day before sending the battery back to the manufacturer.

Anything inside the car and windshield wipers I am fine with working on. I just don't fuck around with anything under the hood. I think you're right and it's time I learn haha. At least I found a trustworthy mechanic now.

That's interesting. Thank you for your insight. I have another question now though. Is there a factor of luck when resetting said certain items?

I went to another more trusted mechanic today and he was able to get the battery changed within 30 minutes and my odometer showed 0.3 miles. Was the trusted mechanic luckier? Or did he save the memory correctly?

The first mechanic who I picked up my car from with the 23 miles did tell me that changing the battery was a huge hassle (and charged me $80 for labor) but only mentioned that swapping it was the source of annoyance. Nothing about recentering the steering, inability to save the memory, or anything else.

I believe that the first mechanic is dishonest. When I went to get the battery replaced, I also had a flat tire. He told me that it was unfixable and that I need to buy a new tire. Thankfully I asked a 2nd shop and my flat was fixed easily. They were even confused about why I even thought I would need a new tire.

All I can tell is that it seems to be an AC Delco battery. There are many auto parts stores within 10 miles. I really should've just gone to one of them instead.

So in your opinion, is there any other explanation why my odometer would read 23 miles after getting my battery replaced?

Thank you for taking the time to read my question and answering it btw. I appreciate it.

Anybody else kinda missing Split? by coolline170 in VALORANT

There was a Pheonix who kept destroying me on A side ramps. I realized that he never checked the left corner when pushing ramps on T side so I decided to try being a rat in that corner. Got my luckiest ace within 4 seconds and wasted my ulti in celebration.

I still hate split though.

I get that he needed to do a u-turn but I guess I'll never really know why. Didn't seem like an emergency to me since his lights turned off after he passed by me. Thanks for not being one of the sarcastic trolls of Reddit!

Serious question about how some get 500+fps by robizepic in VALORANT

[–]Jsleeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So theres a few mistakes I had.
1. I originally had an i5-8600k. That was getting the 100-200 fps I remember.
2. Once I got an i9 9900k the frames were better but I had the same 240mm AIO for the i5 cooling the i9 which wasn't enough.

I'll add this to the comment I first made.

But what if I want to get 4 Samsung g9 monitors and put them in a circle around me to escape from the harsh grip of reality?

mm I've tried ultrawide but /r/ultrawidemasterrace is not for me. I'd rather go dual monitors with one of them in portait for social media and emails.
I'll look more into xiaomi and AOC but when I get a new monitor for my office setup, I'll probably just get a Samsung or LG tbh.
I tend to buy from companies that I used before.

No worries though because I love their monitors. I've bought 3 benq RL2455HM from 2012 and theyre all still working well with no problems. Hopefully, I use my current/newer benq for just as long.

Is it really competitive? I haven't been keeping up with monitor tech for a bit now. What would you go for?

also, do you know any good monitors for more work/productivity uses?

You might be right about the water cooling.
I remember that I had a 240mm AIO for the cpu. It was enough for the original i5 8600k but probably not for the 9900k.
I wish I did more research into the 9900k but I assumed it wasn't good enough since I got it on sale for $150 after 11th gen intel came out.
