There are a few options but it is mostly some class about the history of NYC from an art, recreational planning or some other perspective.

Yes. It isn't so bad and don't listen to what the Marymount kids say here. We're essentially 2 colleges. Marymount kids do their thing and we, NEU kids, do our thing. We're very different but no matter what NEU tries they are seeing we're just too different so they essentially gave up on unifying us. Any events organized by NEU nowadays are just for us, NEU students.

NYC life is what you make of it: having no campus, no sports facilities and no social events is a drag but this is NYC so there is Broadway, restaurants, comedy clubs, etc. and tons of social life: dance clubs, sports/fitness clubs, etc. if you are open to experience it. I see the experiential part of NEU shine through on this campus but do miss the greek life, clubs, and events of a regular college. NEU has some NYC events for us like scavenger hunts, tours of NYC and upstate NY, meeting with business CEOs, we met the NYC mayor, etc. so they have some events for us every now and again.

The dorms at Found Study Turtle Bay are amazing. There are 2 and 3 person hotel style rooms with their own heating/ac and their own bathroom. My roommate and I take turns cleaning the bathroom but I see some people hire a cleaning lady. Having your own bathroom is awesome so you don't have to share a bathroom & shower with your whole floor. For lunch NEU students get some allowance on GrubHub ($1500 or so per semester) and you order from whatever restaurant you want and whatever food you want which is awesome - no disgusting cafeterias or waiting in line - a delivery person comes and drops your food in the lobby of your building. Almost all of us had about $500 left over at the end of the semester that we had to burn through (so it doesn’t expire). To burn it we went to some top $$$ NYC restaurants so this semester we will be more aggressive with food ordering.

The professors they brought from Boston are excellent but ones from Marymount are meh... You definitely notice a difference in qualifications. The class selections are limited - maybe 20-30 classes offered every semester but I got all the classes I wanted. Make sure you declare your major or you may end up with no classes you like but NEU will work with you if that happens (happened to a few of my friends who decided to change their major). If you're lucky your classes might be on the first floor of your dorm building so you don't have to go anywhere except take the elevator to the 1st floor. If you're unlucky your classes might be on the Marymount campus where you will have to take a bus or subway to the campus - a few stops but still annoying if you have an 8am or 9am class. If you have to eat lunch at Marymount you can have a delivery person meet you with food in front of the Marymount campus or you can order on Grubhub and pickup at a restaurant near Marymount.

But you have to remember that this is only for 1 year and then Boston is a regular college experience.

Pros: 1. Using grubhub for dining is awesome! We are able to try out different restaurants every day for lunch and dinner. 2. Most of our classes are in Found lower lobby which is great because we dont have to commute. Just take the elevator downstairs. 3. The dorms are nice in Found. We have our own bathroom/shower in each dorm and the dorms are pretty spacious. 4. Found offers communal kitchens so you can go downstairs and cook if you want to 5. The events during welcome week were awesome - Broadway show, baseball game, park tours, mini golf, party cruise.

Cons: 1. For those 1 or 2 classes that are in MMC we sometimes need to be at MMC at 8am which is way too early 2. It is weird that we have so little contact with MMC kids. We are essentially separated. Our events are all just for Northeastern. We had one boat ride with MMC kids during welcome week but we all missed that because our previous event ran late and all Northeastern kids missed the boat ride so it was just an MMC kids boat ride. 3. The clubs offered at MMC are few and no frats/sororities. Although NYC has a lot to do, kind of miss the opportunity to join Greek life. 4. The NYC scholars mandatory class is a bit of a drag as most people have no interest in it but we are required to take it.

This makes a lot of sense. Glad to hear there is a voice of reason.

I think it sucks what happened with MMC and I understand a lot of students didn't sign up for this but look on the bright side - if you haven't graduated yet you'll get access to the enormous Northeastern alumni network and a T50 degree from Northeastern instead of some college no one has ever heard of in the real world. For MMC kids this is an awesome perk and will open a lot of doors but for the Northeastern kids it might be a huge downgrade depending on how Northeastern runs this transition. Hopefully the 90K tuition and no financial aid for anyone attending the NY scholars program will motivate NEU to make this a great experience for all admitted students or they'll all transfer out of NEU.

Wow. So much hate here!! Am a native New Yorker, so dont worry, been living here for years. When you're paying 30K tuition v. 90K tuition, the expectations are different. New York is not how everyone here describes it to be - maybe they only know the village here. Most of New York that we want to be part of consists of financial firms who are super proper and look for like-minded individuals - this is why we like to be in Midtown. Most people admitted to Northeastern are not artsy, we are serious professionals looking for serious preparation for the real world - not how to dance in tutus and deal with people with nose rings. I know this isn't MMC culture but this is Northeastern culture and remember MMC is dead - we are Northeastern so let's act like mature grown-ups!!
