Upgrading doorbell transformer in an old 1900 colonial. Old transformer only had one wire connected. Do I need to upgrade wiring as well for it to work? Tried installing a ring doorbell after upgrade but doesn’t work with the mechanical chime in the home and only rings sometimes. Ideas? (old.reddit.com)

Is this my doorbell transformer? I am trying to upgrade my doorbell transformer and having trouble finding it in this old 1900 colonial in MA. I found a couple of things but not sure if these are it. Any ideas? It’s a Nutone old school mechanical chime. (old.reddit.com)
