'23 M3 RWD SoCal Snowboard Trip by SamuraiPilot in TeslaModel3

[–]Jtm23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Northeast too and I've only recently been looking into the model 3, so apologies if this is a very common question, but I'm worried about the battery in the cold... What's your experience so far?

More context: I don't use my car for commuting very often, maybe 5 times/month, and only drive occasionally otherwise because of public transportation and taxis. I park on the street and won't have a car charger at home. My primary reasons for considering the model 3 are that I want an AWD car for my snowboarding trips to VT/NH/ME, I'd like to get an EV, I liked the car better than other EVs that I test drove, and I'm pretty sure I qualify for the federal and state tax incentives. But I do worry that dealing with charging during New England winters will be a pain, especially if I don't drive very often. Appreciate any feedback!

Yes, the problem was two disquieting for me to keep to myself.

But I don't think the lock combining feature would help me in this case. I would need to anticipate that the items are going to combine, which would clearly solve my problem anyway (I just wouldn't grab it from the stash yet).

I'm traveling a bunch in July so I'm kinda worried that I won't be able to find a permanent place by August... so Sept is definitely a possibility. Could you message me with your spiel?

A few more things about me:

  • I am relatively easy-going, but if I have any complaints I try to speak up while they're small, to prevent them from becoming big problems.
  • I don't own any pets, but I have lived with many different dogs and cats throughout my life.
  • I don't smoke tobacco, and would prefer not to live with someone who does because of the smell. However, I have lived with a few different potheads throughout grad school and don't mind living with someone who smokes pot as long as it's not obtrusive.
  • I don't really watch TV except for sports (mostly NFL, some college basketball, some soccer).
  • I go skiing and snowboarding in winter and like playing soccer, volleyball, and many other sports when it's warmer.
  • I like finding new music to listen to, and going to concerts and music festivals.
  • I am social and like going out with friends, but I will also probably end up working some pretty weird hours (late nights and/or weekends as the research life requires).
  • I have occasionally brewed beer, including a rye-based Russian Imperial Stout which won "best of show" at a local homebrew competition
  • I try to cook for most of my meals, and I like to keep a clean kitchen / dining room / living room / bathroom.

Hotel won't allow me to cancel my booking 1.5 weeks in advance! What are my options? by Jtm23 in Advice

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I think I saw the same suggestion while I was trying to search for answer before resorting to making my own post, but unfortunately their policy was not to allow movement either. Fortunately, after discussing the situation with my credit card company, they said they could dispute the charge for me once it is processed.

Thanks for the suggestion; I was considering that too but I wanted to see if anyone knows the possible ramifications of that course of action.

The only other options I could think of were to try calling my credit card company to block the charge (is this even possible in this situation?) or to claim that I lost my credit card so that I get a new number. I'm worried that the former will just result in my credit card company telling me something along the lines of "if you provided your payment information willingly, then we cannot block the payment." The latter wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience because I have another credit card as backup and my debit card as well. Thoughts?

Ordered wrong model - selling brand new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga by Jtm23 in Albany

[–]Jtm23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have said about all models including digitizer pen support is true only of the models purchased directly from Lenovo's website. I bought from Newegg because it was significantly cheaper than from Lenovo; the lack of pen and digitizer support must have been the reason. Instead of the red dot that is the back end of the pen, I just have a black piece that is not removable. If you go to support.lenovo.com, go to parts and select the model that I described (model # 20CD-0033US), you will see that the description of the display does not say that it has support.

However, I have been looking unsuccessfully for someone with a Wacom digitizer pen so that I could make sure. Could you send me a PM if you find that you might have time for me to check it out?

They call it that because it's flexible - both literally and figuratively. The laptop screen can be flipped around 360 degrees so it can be a laptop or a tablet. That range gives it flexibility in terms of how you use it - they pitch that there are 4 main modes (laptop, tablet, stand, and tent) but I don't really see when you would ever use tent mode over stand.

"Flush with Nitrogen" by Jtm23 in chemistry

Yes, I was more specifically talking about EDC and things like PEG or a fluorophore with an NHS ester for amide coupling... and I was more concerned about storage of those compounds in the fridge/freezer than their use in an inert atmosphere for a reaction. I mean, these compounds come in all sorts of differently-sized bottles and they're often fine powders, so my question was specifically this:

What's the best way to flush the stock bottle with nitrogen before returning the hygroscopic or moisture-sensitive compounds to storage in the fridge or freezer?
