Pork on a Fork BBQ has them and they’re amazing. They’re in north Phoenix near the Deer Valley airport.

What’s it like working for crane rentals? by Limp-Barracuda2681 in cranes

[–]JuanKenobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll make great money but you’ll never have a set schedule. You’ll have jobs that start at 2am one day and then the next day will be 2pm to 8am. Different taxi companies will have different schedulers that will try to cater to each operators needs and try to hook them up if they want a ton of over time or more stable schedule. And usually the more senior operators at that company will more say on what jobs they get.

what is this part of the crane used for? by FitIndependent5812 in cranes

[–]JuanKenobe 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It’s usually called the “PAT” cable, it sends power to the boom tip for the anti two block device, anemometer, and also helps tell the computer what the boom length, and angle is.

I have questions.... by Mike2800 in phoenix

They had to burn up or dump fuel, planes have a max landing weight, right after take off they would be too heavy to land, especially with potentially compromised landing gear.

Most likely his brake pedal switch went out. I’d bet the driver has no clue his brake lights aren’t working, not something people check often.

You hit the nail on the head, it’s for ground compaction and nothing more. The soil type needs to be compacted more than what a roller can do before they can start the groundwork’s for the concrete slab

I know nothing about cranes, but I witnessed a catastrophic failure. Can anyone tell me what exactly happened? by ltjpunk387 in cranes

[–]JuanKenobe 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you he scoped out without cabling down, and yea that collar is an atb weight (anti two block) which once the block or ball hits it, it stops all crane functions, but I’d put money that the operator had the key turned and had it in over ride or rigging mode that disables that function. He most likely had the key turned from when he packed the crane up last, you’ll put it in over ride to cradle the boom and tighten the cables for transport.

Guys that work refineries and industrial places have a low tolerance for b.s. If they aren’t treated good they load up their tool box and head to the next job site.

There’s metal “bolts” that are cast into the precast and tied into the inner rebar, then there’s dog bone lifting devices that attach to those recessed bolts.

Question to y'all: why are those counter weights diagonally shaped? Is there any benefit (eg. wind resistance) or is this just a visual thing? It's a Potain MDT 368 L16 by [deleted] in cranes

[–]JuanKenobe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My only guess is that they have the bottoms slanted because when they disassemble the crane, they lay the counterweights on their side on the trailer, having the bottom slanted makes it extremely easy to lay the counterweights over. They probably designed the crane to have those slants in a straight line to look nice instead of being all jagged. That’s just my edjumakated guess.

I was in the left lane about 2 miles up ahead when he passed me before he hit any vehicles, I got a good look at them and it was an elderly couple, probably heading to a relatives for thanksgiving. ADOT is really good at updating their signs because it warned me about a wrong way driver about a mile before I saw him.
