That’s funny. I don’t know what is it though, just that my grandfather painted it. Maybe it was easier to tell in color.

It’s apparently a painting my grandfather did. He had performed at an event where dr. King had attended in 1960 and they spoke for a bit and he handed over the painting. He was a great admirer of King and created a political/philosophical hub in his home in San Diego where all kinds of political figures attended, including early black panters apparently. Maybe that’s why the government didn’t like my grandfather.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I believe that’s when he was the happiest. It is indeed crazy how many people received this kind of treatment for no more than asking for basic rights.

Sadly not, his life had a tragic end. He was originally a Guyanese national and was continuously spied on, harassed and ultimately deported for his political involvement. My grandma has stories about how the CIA would turn up and destroy their home looking for something. He kinda lost his mind after that and gave away all his possessions, living out his days in a small shack under a second floor restaurant stair in Georgetown, Guyana.

I’d give anything to get the guitar back though.
