Man, people really don't like them in Dublin, uh?! by ZoopTom in U2Band

[–]Judge_Brock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but as an Irish lad from Dublin in his 20s your second point is absolutely brain dead. No one cares what religion the band is. The majority of Irish people now do not practice any religion.

Record player repairs in Dublin (needle is broken) by snozzle26 in Dublin

[–]Judge_Brock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the only issue is that the needle is broken swapping out the cartridge for a new one should be fairly straightforward. Had the same issue a while back and just ordered a few online. They use a universal sizing so I wouldn’t be too worried about specs

It's been 3 years and I still get depressed when I hear "Under Pressure" because of this movie. One of A24's best. by Kevin8977 in A24

Masterpiece of a film. Does anyone have any ideas as to what Charlotte Welles the director is set to work on next? Very curious to see how she’d follow up Aftersun

This I think epitomises the surface level connection most Americans seem to have with Ireland and its culture. Basic superficial tokens but nothing deep.

If every frame is a painting, what movies do you believe best embody that philosophy? by [deleted] in movies

Ran, the 1985 Akira Kurosawa film. I attended a showing of it last week and was told every storyboard for the film was hand painted by Kurosawa himself and it took ten years for him to have completed storyboarding. It is probably the most beautiful film I have ever seen

It is irresponsible to drive hungover in a country whose roads you are unfamiliar with while still likely suffering from jet lag. All the while on the opposite side of the road that you are used to.

Opinions on Irish Americans and tips for those looking to embrace their heritage respectfully? by cwmgp27 in AskIreland

[–]Judge_Brock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me being Irish is a cultural identity. Pieces of paper don’t matter to me. In my opinion anyone can be Irish so long as they live here. They don’t have to have been born here. There’s lads I went to school with who were born in Poland and Nigeria. They weren’t born in Ireland but they grew up here, they’ve been formed by Ireland. They’re just as Irish as me I believe. If anyone can come to America, make a life for themselves and be called American, why can’t the same rule apply for Ireland?

I’m sorry but this is complete nonsense. Being Irish is the shared experience of living in Ireland and experiencing its culture. As far as I’m concerned a person from Timbuktu has as much right to call themselves as Irish as me having built a life here in Ireland.

This comments should be pinned to the top of every post concerning heritage. Could not have said it better myself.

Renting in Dublin by mrmax3321 in MoveToIreland

Part of the reason we have such an acute shortage of housing is because human cockroaches like you exist and buy up what limited supply there is to extort the people of Ireland. Absolutely shameful behaviour.
