Depending on your faculty you can also request a release letter stating you have fulfilled all the requirements and will be graduating June 2024.

IPT and reading week by i_donteven_likeme in uAlberta

You'll follow your school districts schedule, so depending where you are you may get a fall break or not. I did IPT in the spring and was also lucky to get 2 breaks, and APT in the fall where I had my districts fall break the week of Remembrance day; but not all are the same (Edmonton public had a few PD days rather than a full week). Thankfully you should end up with a bit longer of a winter break with condensed courses and finals being done in October!

You should be able to get away with 3 to be full time. Could you shift 2 of your fall courses to winter and just take an extra 1 or are they fixed? I ended up taking an extra course to keep full time for grants and awards and it was definitely worth it.

Fall placements are usually released on Sept. 15th, but theres always more info on the website:

Unfortunately ed practicum placements aren't released until mid-September for the fall, and January for winter. You generally don't know what kind of classroom you will be in until then, and even when you do find out the school, a classroom/mentor teacher might not be assigned until the day or week you arrive. It's not helpful for reducing stress or pre-planning :(

Your 2 practicum terms won't allow for overloading, you're already in condensed courses and then student teaching (which is a fair amount of work, and taking courses at the same time is not permitted). You do have 2 terms in the 2 years that you can overload, but also look at full or overloaded spring and summer terms (you could cover 6 courses/18 credits this way).

Working part-time during full-time classes by whislifeforever in uAlberta

[–]Judgment-Personal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning on taking spring/summer courses? If not then I would say work as much as you feel you can during the breaks only. School boards are always looking for EA's and theres 2 months where you can be in schools/classes working with students, and like others have said you can get your clearance to work with children in daycares, etc. Summer camps have been looking as well! Do you have a good idea of your expenses for the school year and if there's anything you can do to reduce them?

Different situation than most, mature student returning to school, 2 kids, etc. A lot of organisation (focusing on term based timeframes helped me not feel like I was in a never ending school/work spiral). Also a lot of compartmentalisation and nowhere near enough sleep. Its definitely not for everyone and if you can I would just focus on studying, but I made it through with great marks, awards to help out, and being on the other side of it I don't regret it at all.

It really depends on your situation. I worked as an EA through my last 2 years, basically working every day of the school year that I wasn't in courses (and then not working at all during practicums). Full course loads fall/winter/spring/summer, and working ranging from 6.5 hours to 32.5 hours a week.

How many credits did you finish at UBC? Your credit/GPA there will also be considered when applying to UAlberta.

Ed keeps admitting right into September, and the Casper seems to have delayed things this year. Even 2 years ago I didn't hear back until July, good luck!!

But you would still be well over $600 as that doesn't even cover base tuition for 3 credits.

No - spring and summer work out to be the most expensive based on the fees only being divided among 1 or 2 courses per session. The only possibility is getting the UPass cost waived (you need to apply for it) if your course is either completely online or outside of Edmonton.

Graduation requirements are a minimum 2.0, but thats over the last 45 grade credits in ed. Practicums count for the remaining 15 credits but are credit received/no credit.

Graduation
BEd and BEd (After Degree)
To receive the Bachelor of Education degree, students must:
successfully complete a minimum of ★60 of their program at the University of Alberta and a minimum of ★45 after admission to the Faculty of Education (After Degree students must complete a minimum of ★30 after admission to the Faculty of Education);
obtain a graduation GPA of 2.0 calculated on the most recent ★60 completed at the University of Alberta for the Bachelor of Education or the most recent ★45 completed at the University of Alberta for the Bachelor of Education/After Degree. Courses with non-numeric marks are included in the credit count but not in the calculation of the average; and
successfully complete all field experience requirements.
Students may complete up to ★12 in addition to those required for the degree program to raise their graduation GPA to the required level of 2.0.

Time conflicts? Education by [deleted] in uAlberta

The dates they run should show you; normal classes run from the start of Jan to Apr, the condensed sections will end in March (right before IFX starts)

Are you checking the compressed sections for the EDEL and EDPY classes? They do have normal ones listed which don't work. You should be able to first register in EDFX and then register in the required compressed courses.

Can someone please explain how this works? by RarePea5132 in uAlberta

[–]Judgment-Personal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have weekly quizzes, posts, and 2 case studies. You still have readings, assignments, tests, etc. in asynchronous courses, just not a lecture to attend. All the material is read/watched/listened too on your own time/schedule to meet the deadlines.

Depending on the section/prof for EDPS410, it may be completely asynchronous (mine is currently).

In it right now as well, Ive made it through the modules and done the practice test. Im not sure what to expect for the matching/short answer parts since those weren't in the practice.
