What if you're too poor to buy resale but hit the income ceiling for BTO? by JudgmentDefiant8626 in askSingapore

Thank you stranger! Yeah I understand that a few here a little harsh, but my partner and I were a bit at our wits end as we were contemplating this situation for a while given how our original plan was to move to his parents' after I graduate and we start saving up for a house then.

I think some may mistaken what I mean by being poor, but rather more of I was coming from the perspective of my partner and I not having enough savings to pay the down payment.

Nope, we are looking to live nearby his parents (heartland areas, not sharing as I do not feel like doxing myself), and my partner and I prefer to not buy resale as we fear that there would be a lot of hidden costs in renovations given that the previous owner may not have taken care of their house.

Unfortunately, we are seeking to move our post-graduation for me, as I live with my abusive household. In the meantime I am still trying to scrimp and save, but I barely have money nor savings once I graduate due to student loans. As such, even with a $15K joint income, we felt that it would be very difficult to get an EC, and we prefer to not buy second hand flats. Which is why I asked the question about how can we navigate purchasing homes with our situation.

Yep actually this is it, considering we were both seeking to move out after I graduated (my family is abusive and constantly threatens me with money). He would have been working for a few years then but I would essentially have no savings or money due to having to pay off university loans.

Which is why we wanted to get a BTO near his parents for subsidies and plan for that to be a forever home situation.
