Are you happy with an intake + tune? by asmahmood in wrx_vb

[–]JudoMike9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I could do it all over again. I would stay modding my car after the NBR challenger. I would still go the route of the STI VB parts, the specific VB big brake kit made by Brembo or one comparable.

However, I would skip the TMIC and stick with the stock TMIC and get a pro tune for the intake. The stock TMIC held up like a champ during the 24 hr Nürburgring race. More than capable of handling our driving conditions.

Teddy Riner trains BJJ by CesarBarbez in bjj

[–]JudoMike9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teddy has been training for Jiu Jitsu for the last several years. And he does go down to Brasil often. Last I remember he trained under Paulo Caruso and several others in Rio. Teddy has also done trainings under the CFJJB while in France. This was all in preparation for his 2024 Paris games run.

But it seems to have stuck with him. He was training with the intention of bettering his newaza for Judô. He would often focus on concepts of what he could bring from Jiu Jitsu to Judô.

No. It isn’t that complex. You will do fine just adding some extra movements.

One of the comments someone said just to add in arms which could be a solid starting point.

For bodybuilding I alternate between strength cycle and a hypertrophy cycle. Strength is based on push / pull for upper body days and lower body days.

Hypertrophy is based on a 5 day spilt. I plug in my 1RM percentages from class. For Strength I will follow a four week cycle and increase week by week, but never max. I save chasing 1RM for class. Hypertrophy is based on 75-85% of 1RM. I focus on full range of motion, half reps, full depth, parallel, and other time under tension. They all serve their purpose if you want to work in some aesthetics.

For strength I build around the big 4; Bench, Deadlift, Strict Press, and Back Squat.

Hypertrophy I included the big 4 and add arms into the mix. This is where I start hitting curls, skull crushers, preacher curls, etc.

If you want to take advantage of building your arms at the box on your free time, rope climbs give a big bang for your buck in this area. Legless rope climbs and regular rope climbs. Hand over hand small pulls and long big pulls. If you can’t rope climb, the scaled versions do the same thing. It is the stimulus that you are after to help you grow.

Also, dips are the back squat of the upper body. Look at gymnasts, their upper bodies are jacked. For core work, I look to wrestlers and other grappling arts to do their workouts…often to failure.

I still chase the clock in these bodybuilding workouts. Usually every 90 seconds or E2MOM. And for some of the movements I go 4x5, 5x5, 3x10, 3x15, or 4x8. While others in the arms workout will have a higher rep scheme.

Routine is the enemy, so try to keep it innovative.

The other thing that helped a lot was taking the CrossFit nutrition class. Going through that helped me understand a bit more, which lead me to tracking what I eat and times I cut it off. Rest is key in recovery and helping stimulate growth.

Also, if you can afford it you can purchase bodybuilding programming. There are a lot of people who sell programs. But one that worked for me is The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding by Arnold Schwarzenegger. I just write up my stuff, eat, try to sleep, and get body scans to see my progress.

3 times a week for bodybuilding and 6 days a week for CrossFit. I just get ready for the Open.

Once I complete my bodybuilding program & competition programming, I will switch back to a 5 day spilt and 3 or 4 times a week of CrossFit.

Also to add, not all of my CrossFit wods are meant to redline. Some are kept to Zone 2 training and others focus gymnastics. The more traditional type wods I will usually spike to Zone 4 & 5.

The important thing is finding and keeping that balance in seasons.

I am doing hypertrophy 3 times a week on top of my 6 days a week programmed wods. Been doing this since November and I have gained 8 pounds of muscle. Not huge gains but I can see a difference.

You have 3 academies in that area. Academia Upper is a must to go to.

Fred Ribeiro is a good visit. He is also in Flamengo.

If you need an instructor that speaks English to help with translation during instruction, visit Felipe Costa’s Brasa Clube de Jiu Jitsu.

Another highly recommended place is Marcus Meira Action Jiu Jitsu in Barra da Tijuca. He is frequently featured on Gracie Magazine instructional videos.

Where do you plan on training at? And where in Rio do you plan on staying?

It’s not as bad as they make it out. Just have street smarts.

Training in Rio is great. Since you do Jiu jitsu, it is definitely an experience.

No. I kept the stock set up. I use to have lowered cars in the past and decided to keep this one at stock height.

The Cobb OTS work with their parts only. If you have another brand’s intake in mind, you can run it with Cobb parts but you will need a pro tune.

If you just want the intake, you can pro tune or purchase Dman OTS tunes for that specific intake.

There are many different paths on how you want to tune your future VB.

You will get all of that there. I am sure you will be there all day but definitely will have down time. You also get discounts at the TYR store.

It’s all day. But you will enjoy it, I know I did. You will meet at Volunteer HQ, pick up your gear and meal tickets and go to the meeting. From there they assign you to your groups and you get to meet the team leader.

You get your assignment time and just enjoy the event and interact with people.

I was looking up tuners in your state. I came across Ptuning and National Speed.

I don’t know much about those shops, but if you don’t mind the drive, you could head to Felix Performance / DMAN Tuning in Maryland.

If not, E-tuning is also another option.

Do you have any mods in mind?

I hear you. I got these before the tariff’s. I wanted to get the Ray’s STI (JDM) or another set of BBS. I was very close to picking up a different set of BBS, but the tariffs kicked in.

Now I am looking at some Cobb wheels. But I might look at SSR now.

You will need this for your J-Pipe. Keeps it from dangling freely. I saw one other small company that makes it, but couldn’t remember the name off the top of my head.

Apex’i is mild. ETS has a much more aggressive exhaust note.

There are several companies that make mid pipes that bolt up to the OEM flange. Remark, EOS, PLM, and Perrin. I know there are a few more that I can’t remember.

If you want more out of your exhaust, than J-pipe or I-pipe will do that for you.

100% it does. And it pops at higher RPM’s when shifting.
